Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.

The World’s Biggest Community River Clean Up is back.

Once again, the organisers at Get On Board are pitching the event as the world’s biggest community river clean – and challenging other towns to prove otherwise. GoodGym Richmond and Kingston are therefore wanting to put a shout out to all other GoodGym groups across London who border the Thames, to join us!

It will build on the successes of 2018 and 2019 and create a fantastic community event that brings together businesses, workers, residents, schools and charities both on the water and on the towpath.

This year, the unique Towpath Litter Pick takes place on Friday 26 June and, as in previous years, runs from Kew Bridge to River Lane in Richmond.

GoodGym will be joining and helping the official environmental partners to the event - SWLEN/Environment Trust.

Event Details and Route

Date: 26 June 2020 Time: Briefings from 1.30 pm – on the water from 2:30 pm approx Start: Kew Bridge Finish: River Lane, Petersham, Richmond

The route passes some of South West London’s most iconic sites including; Kew Gardens, Syon House, Isleworth Ait, Old Deer Park and of course, the stunning Richmond Riverside. Exact route details TBC nearer the time.

We will be collecting plastic and litter – off the water - and over 400 paddle boarders will be collecting debris on the water. Walkers, Paddlers and Pickers will arrive in Richmond together for a post-litter picking party!

Picker sticks and sacks will be provided.

The main purpose of Get on Board is to highlight the problem of plastic pollution in our waterways and demonstrate Richmond’s commitment to the environment.

The River Thames is one of Richmond’s greatest assets, it supports businesses, attracts visitors, provides leisure facilities and helps show the world what a great place Richmond is.

A clean, healthy river is vital to the business and residential communities.

Due to the current situation surrounding COVID -19 and the Government’s advice to self-isolate, we regret that all volunteer and social events such as walks, talks, conservation & litter picking sessions with SWLEN are now cancelled or postponed until further notice.

We hope to join forces with SWLEN again when we are able to.
