To celebrate World Rivers Day this month, this community mission is to visit your local waterway and contribute to citizen science.

Several national water-based citizen science projects are happening this week you can get involved in, including the Great UK Waterblitz (Friday 18 - Sunday 21st September) and the Big River Watch (Friday 18 - Thursday 24 September).

Not near a river or water body? There are many more ongoing citizen science opportunities in the UK - check out the UK Environment Agency's list, or various app-based projects via the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. Feel free to pick something else that suits you this week!

This is an individual task which you can do any time before the end of Thursday 24 September. You are responsible for your own safety, so ensure you take reasonable safety and security precautions, especially if working close to waterways, and always follow any safety procedures set out by the citizen science project.

Let us know in the comments what citizen science project you've supported so we can confirm you for this task!

How are you getting there?
