10:06 - 11:51🌳 GoodGym Tiny Forest Tour – supporting Earthwatch
GoodGym Barnet is heading on a Tiny Forest Tour, supporting Earthwatch at a series of community and citizen science days in Bedfordshire and South Wales.
Daniel, Gus 🐶 and I will be travelling between the forests in my campervan, representing GoodGym and helping Earthwatch staff engage local communities with their recently planted Tiny Forests.
🌱 What are Tiny Forests?
Tiny Forests are small, densely planted areas of native trees designed to bring the benefits of woodland into towns and cities. As well as creating valuable habitat for wildlife, they provide an opportunity to explore how trees can help with carbon capture, cooling our environment, water management, biodiversity and our response to climate change.
Importantly, the community doesn’t just plant the forest and walk away. Earthwatch encourages local people to become involved in looking after and studying their forest through citizen science.
Why GoodGym and Earthwatch?
Earthwatch and GoodGym have worked together on Tiny Forests around the country, and it’s a great partnership.
GoodGym is about getting active while doing something useful for the community. Tiny Forests give us the chance to combine walking, running or cycling, volunteering, nature, environmental action and meeting local people.
We’ll be supporting Earthwatch staff with their community days, helping people understand the Tiny Forest concept and demonstrating some of the citizen science activities, including measuring trees to understand carbon capture and recording information using the Tiny Forest app.
🚐 Come and join us!
If you’re a GoodGym member living near one of the forests – or fancy making the journey – we’d love you to join us. You don’t need any previous knowledge or experience. Come along, meet the Earthwatch team, learn something about the trees and help us engage the local community.
Our Tiny Forest Tour dates:
Tuesday 11 August – Houghton Hall Park Tiny Forest, Dunstable 2pm–6pm Park Road North, Houghton Regis, Dunstable, LU5 5FU Planted in February 2026 with the local community and Weatherfield Academy SEN School.
Wednesday 12 August – Hinksley Road Recreation Ground, Flitwick 2pm–6pm Hinksley Road Recreation Ground, St Paul’s Close, Flitwick, MK45 1ES Planted in February 2024 with Kingsmoor Primary and Woodland Academy. We’re returning for another Discovery Day following a poor initial tree survival rate.
Friday 14 August – Sarn Tiny Forest, Bridgend 2pm–6pm Lower Llansantffraid, Sarn, Bridgend Coordinates: 51°32’29.8”N 3°35’17.6”W Planted in March 2026 in partnership with Admiral and the local community.
Saturday 15 August – Ringwood Hill Tiny Forest, Newport 11am–3pm Ringwood Hill, Newport Coordinates: 51.5907648, -2.9482705 Planted in March 2026 by children from St Gabriel’s RC Primary School and the local community.
Come for as much of the session as you can – if any of the timings are tricky, let us know and we’ll see if we can work around you.
It’s a chance to get active, visit somewhere new, learn a bit of practical citizen science and help Earthwatch connect these young forests with the communities that will hopefully care for them for years to come.
