Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Adele Prince
A lucky seven ran up, up, up to Upper Norwood Library Hub, covering just under 4km along the way.
This week two of our runners had already been on a mission before they joined us, helping an older man pack away his belongings, ready to move into a residential home tomorrow - well done to Vic and Tim! Before we headed outside into the frrrreeeeezzzzing cold, we chatted about goals - did you know you can set yourself a goal on your GoodGym profile page? It's very motivating! We also talked about our Christmas social and nailed the date once and for all.
You might have noticed in our photos, that we had a new runner joining us this evening, we don't know who he was, but he kept making a really high-pitched screaming noise!
I don't boolieve it!
Tonight's run was taking us right up the hill to Crystal Palace, so we warmed ourselves up with some spooky moves, shaking out our bones, running fast from the zombies and showing the commuters our best Michael Jackson shapes. Nice. The park was fittingly dark, so we went fast and hard, arriving at the library promptly, to be met by Chris. A big thank you here to Bradley, who stayed back to run up with Hannah, who had been delayed - good teamwork.
Hub-ble bubble, toil and trouble
In the basement of the library is a storage space that weaves around like a warren, full to the brim with old and donated books and all sorts of handy bits and bobs. It was our task to move some of these to the shed (which is now complete, thank goodness!), crush and pack away some boxes, move some books out of the entrance and onto a shelf and to clear a path through so things are a little more accessible. I must admit, we were very, very distracted by some of the amazing books! I could sit all night in this cubby-hole, flicking through the Charles Booth books, listing the residents of all of the London streets, their occupations and character traits ('Untidy, dissipated people'!). Unfortunately we couldn't sit all night, we had work to do and a fitness session to smash! Pushing the last bits of card into the big bin, we said our goodbyes to Chris and headed back down the hill.
A spooktacular evening
Clustering around the one or two working head-torches that we had between us, we stepped carefully through the park, arriving at the avenue of trees. Here we played some trick or treat games, keeping us warm and pushing us a little harder. Eating teeth, eyeballs, brains and fingers, we looked forward to next week, where we will run down to Melvin Hall, to continue work on painting the little store room - see you then!
