The fruit trees in Iona Orchard are still 'sleeping' right now, before they start their Spring growth spurt... making this a good time for any winter pruning needed to remove damaged branches and encourage healthy sprouting. Volunteers will also be barrowing woodchip to add a generous ring of mulch under each tree's canopy - this will add important nutrients to the soil and help prevent surface evaporation, holding moisture around the tree roots and ensuring growth even in coming dry periods. Please join the team, led by Caroline, at the southern end of Ladywell Fields, near Iona Close, where the community orchard is located next to the children's play area.
