Sam waited upon Sophie and Steve to arrive at Old Spike. He waited inside until he took a moment to look outside and running towards him on his left was Sophie whilst Steve was running towards Old Spike on the right. It was the perfect arrival. Still unsure whether other runners would arrive, Sam waited until 18:45.

Sam's GG intro was quick and since the run was going to be long (4k), he decided to skip the warm up to get there on time. Sam did ask his ice-breaker question for tonight as they ran to the task, which was to do with the fact the UK government will be pushing "test" emergency text to all UK mobiles in a month, so he asked: Where will you go in the event of a nuclear fallout?

Steve said he would cycle up to a place near Newcastle to his childhood arcade, where he wished he could lock himself away when he was younger. Sophie went for a rural village in Dorset, where the local pub makes its own cider. Sam would also rush down to the South Coast, but to his Dad's place in Chichester.

Clash of spades

After running a long, but steady 4k, the team met Folarin who was introducing himself to Alan and Jane. He mentioned that he last came here 18 years ago when he was at the primary school next door. So wholesome to see him come back and check out the pond.

Alan and Jane had two tasks for us and split the team in two:

  • Folarin and Sophie went with Alan to fix the "living wall" that protects the Nature Reserve. Some of the material had fallen off and he needed them to measure out chicken wire to lock in the material with the chicken wire, a hammer and nails.
  • Meanwhile, Sam and Steve had a wheelbarrow and a shade to empty a raised bed each. The area needed to be flatten in order to move the polytunnel to it's new home.

Our 35 minute session was accompanied by "Best of British" hits from Spotify as rushed through the tasks as Alan, Eddie and Jane needed to finish up before 20:00 in order to get to a meeting. We will be back in two weeks as there's things to do in the polytunnel.

Thank You to all the GG-ers

A personal thanks from me to all those who came out tonight! We might have been smaller in number compared to the previous weeks, but not in attitude. Thank you for coming out on the run and helping out with the task.

Thank You Alan & Jane

GoodGym is all about getting fit and doing good! We praise the runners/cyclists/walkers who come to get fit and help out, but we often forget about our task owner. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Alan and Jane for opening up Galleywall Nature Reserve for us to help out with the various tasks.
