Slow Ways
Slow Ways is an initiative to create a national network of walking routes connecting all of Great Britain’s towns and cities as well as thousands of villages. Using existing paths, ways, trails and roads, people can use Slow Ways routes to walk or wheel between neighbouring settlements, and combine them to create longer distance trips. It’s designed to make it easier for people to imagine, plan and go on walking journeys. There are currently over 7,000 Slow Ways stretching for over 100,000km. This network of routes was created by 700 volunteers during the Spring 2020 lockdown, creating a unique Slow Ways map in the process.

Throughout February and March we’ll be partnering with Slow Ways.

They’ve approached us as they have hundreds of walking routes that need ‘verifying’ in our 59 areas. This means walking or running the routes, alone or in groups, and checking that the route is passable and recording any potential issues i.e. overgrown paths, unlit areas etc. Routes vary in length from a few km to many miles. Their goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

You will meet with your Task Force Hero at an agreed location and walk (or run) to your route and then follow the instructions on the website to log that walking route. Post walk coffee and brunch optional....!

If you want to check out your area already you can do so on their website by clicking here: https://goodgym.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f397bfbe5dfa70ea4809315c5&id=5fd6be96fd&e=ecd2bb4ce9

Just enter your postcode and you’ll be able to see all the routes from your town/city. They have some really useful guidance that you can also check out by clicking here: https://goodgym.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f397bfbe5dfa70ea4809315c5&id=1d3e49fd39&e=ecd2bb4ce9
