26 GoodGymers took on the rain, 5.5km & helped Kentish Town City Farm

Despite the fact it rained all day you guys never disappoint turning up, maybe it was the possibility of hanging out with the animals. Welcome to Emily and Sally whose first time it was - lovely to have you along!

In the news this week:

  1. Ivo Gormley, the Founder of GoodGym, was on BBC Radio 4 last night telling the story about GG. It's very inspiring, give it a listen here.
  2. Next Thursday (10th August) it's the Monthly Social at the Southbank Rooftop Garden, it's going to be great - sign up here.
  3. Race chat - it's all about New Forest Races - Marathon/Half Marathon/10K/5K in September. Sign up now and fill in the spreadsheet (Frances says!)

To the farm!

After an active warm up that included dynamic stretches we headed north to Kentish Town and the City Farm, it was a lovely 2.5km run up there. Once we all arrived Elaine met us and explained more about the charity and what tasks we'll be doing. The farm relies on volunteers to keep going so having 26 of us come along makes a huge impact.

Splitting into two groups, one to shovel manure and the other to sort planks of wood out.

First shovel team: A team of 16 people made there way over to the manure area, the task was to bag up the stuff and pile it up for the farm to sell. Everyone got in pairs and with forks, spades and snow shovels got to work. Damian 'Del Boy' Mitchell reckoned they'd bagged up 40 sacks of manure and with them going for £3.50 a bag, that's worth a score innit....

Is it goat time yet Frances asked?!?

Group two: The main task for this group of 10 was to rearrange over 100 planks, posts and pieces of wood into their categorised piles so it's easier to be used by the farm staff. This wood is used to expand and rebuild the North London farm so this time consuming but essential job is definitely worth it. Well done guys!

On our way out we played with the goats, washed our hands and said our goodbyes to Elaine. On the way back to base the main conversion I heard was how fast do you have to be outrun a TRex (?) apparently it's 12m/ph. Good to know you know.

Sign up for next week here, I've had about three task cancellations but will have stuff for us to do.

PB out.
