GG Islington #119! Welcome first timers Annie, Nadine and Fiona.

Two tasks this evening.

Steve took a group to St. Luke's and tells us what went on with poetry:

To St Luke's we eight goodgymers went,
To shovel earth till we was spent,
Running quickly each way,
We done good today,
'Twas always speedily meant.

Barrows forth and barrows back,
The only thing we seemed to lack,
Was time to do more,
It was never a chore,
Until we dragged the sack.

As for the topic to discuss,
There was a distinct lack,
Of memory and interest,
But given the subject,
What did you expect?

Not John Betjeman (honest)

Steve

One bunch went to collect Christmas Trees! Including Mel who's allergic to Christmas Trees (?!) We were a little worried there may not be any around, but we were mistaken. There were loads. Through the streets we dragged them, making the pavements smell nice, taking care to avoid accidentally ripping up other types of trees from residents' gardens.

With a nice collection of about 20 trees piled up at the drop-off point off in Barnard Park, it was time to say goodbye to Christmas with some activities:

Treelay

Two lines of six trees and two teams of six runners. Each team member had to run to a tree, collect it, and drag it back to the pile. Little bit of cheating going on, especially from Caroline, but it was all good fun and a very close finish.

Wanging

Then Danny Abs suggested a wanging contest. To avoid the common situation of some people wanging big ones and some people wanging small ones we spent a little while rummaging around finding the smallest one.

Everybody took a turn to wang as hard as they could. There were a few different methods. Some people wanged from the base, some wanged from the top, some grabbed it with both hands and wanged it, but the best method turned out to be swinging it around.

As suspected, the biggest wanger of the evening was Simon. Although he did overstep the line, so perhaps Sam is a bigger wanger. Find out next year.

What's the point? That was our debate question. The St. Luke's lot didn't really have an answer, but the Christmas Tree group had a straightforward response: WANGING!

Triple Treats tonight. Simon brought along a new biscuits: Digestive thins. Just like normal digestives except a third of the size and three times the cost. Nina brought some gluten free cookies and Kike brought cake. Fat wangers.

There is word of homemade biccies next week...
