Twelve terrific GoodGymmers ran to the Rose Gardens to help prepare them for Spring.

Meeting at the Phoenix, we were joined by Avital, for her first group run! She surely deserves an extra cheer for joining us on such a cold night.

After a mammoth news update (remember to check out the upcoming xmas parties guys) we warmed up and set off. Graham and Paul led, while Chris and Hazel backmarked.

It's quite a short run, but we managed to get our limbs moving a bit before the task leader, Brian, set us to work. The Rose Gardens form part of Northway Gardens, just next to the A1 road. They are a lovely volunteer managed area that remains open for walkers and anyone looking for some green space.

(I realise the pun is obscure and perhaps only enjoyed by Stephen King nerds but still: Rose Madder is a mythical character, in the novel of the same name, that helps a troubled woman plant a beautiful tree that she is able to visit and it helps her work through her mental problems. A King metaphor for gardening there!! You're welcome)

We divided into teams and set out shifting wood chip, shifting leaves, and working with the compost to make sure that's activated and ready for the Spring. Taking turns to shift wheelbarrows, shovel, and hold torches (very important in the pitch black gardens!) we got loads done in half an hour or so.

Brian was delighted and we helped pack up before setting off.

Graham, Paul and Jack jetted off as our fast group, while the rest of us made our way back to the Phoenix. There was lots of talk of next week's Barnet Xmas party so I hope to see you all there.

It was a cold night so the cup of tea when I got home was particularly appreciated! Till next time
