The rain stopped briefly as we met at our task location off Kingsway West in Acomb. Gordon, one of the residents from the building that overlooks the area, was already there along with another couple of volunteers who live nearby. Our task was to rake all the docks and nettles* that had been cut down, however they'd all grown up again since the last cut so there wasn't much to rake at first glance. Luckily Michal brought along his very sharp shears and so fresh cutting commenced and we took it in turns cutting and raking.

Claire got busy pulling up some big weeds along the fence, whilst Gordon and one of the other volunteers got to work digging over and raking a rectangular strip ready for some wild flower seeds. The plan is to keep as many of the docks and nettles at bay so that the whole area can be turned into the Kings Path Wildflower Meadow.

Gordon called over a local lady with her children who were passing by to sow the first wild flower seeds on the cleared patch - hopefully the first of many! We raked them over and did our famous "seed stomping". After an hour we'd filled 2 large rubble bags of weeds so it was time to leave just as the fine rain started up again.

Oh, and I got to wear my 500 t-shirt for the first time, yay!

*There really weren't any nettles to speak of but it made a good pun!
