Date and time
09:00 - 11:00Welcome to GoodGym Greenwich at Charlton House & Gardens 🌿
Join us for a friendly community gardening session at the beautiful Charlton House & Gardens in partnership with CABAHS (Charlton and Blackheath Amenity Society).
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or trying it for the first time, there’s always plenty to get involved with. We’ll be helping to maintain the historic gardens by tackling a variety of seasonal tasks such as digging, planting, watering, weeding, pruning, deadheading, mulching and general garden maintenance. Every helping hand makes a real difference in keeping these wonderful gardens thriving for everyone to enjoy.
Meeting point We’ll meet in the gardens at Charlton House. Charlton House & Gardens is around a 10–15 minute walk from Charlton railway station, via Charlton Church Lane (a gentle uphill walk).
When you arrive, look out for Jason, the Head Gardener, or regular volunteers Sharon or Kathy, who will welcome you, explain the tasks for the day and help you choose something you’d enjoy doing.
What to expect This is a relaxed, social volunteering session suitable for all abilities. You can stay for as much of the session as you’re able, meet new people, get active outdoors and help care for one of Greenwich’s most beautiful historic green spaces.
The session lasts 2 hours, including a 30-minute tea break provided by CABAHS with tea and biscuits, giving everyone a chance to relax, chat and enjoy a well-earned break together.
Facilities Toilets are available inside Charlton House. There are also public toilets located next to the Old Cottage Café in Charlton Park. If you fancy a drink or bite to eat after the session, Frilly’s Tea Room is inside Charlton House, and the Old Cottage Café is just a short walk away in the park.
About CABAHS The Charlton and Blackheath Amenity Society (CABAHS) works to preserve and enhance Charlton House and its historic gardens, supporting volunteers and community projects that keep this much-loved local landmark flourishing.
Did you know? Charlton House is one of London’s finest Jacobean manor houses and is free to visit. The building also houses a public library, hosts exhibitions, live music and community events, and is available to hire for weddings and other special occasions.
Come along, get your hands dirty, meet friendly local people and help make a lasting difference. We look forward to seeing you there!
