he church was established sometime in the 12th century. There is reference to a church here in 1274, and evidence of a building even before then. By 1356 it was dedicated to St Mary.[2] The building has been altered many times since its foundation and the oldest parts, the north wall and the tower (which seems to have had a steeple during the 16th and 17th centuries), date from the reign of King Henry VII.

Community Mission: Clearing the way at St Mary’s memorials

When: Friday, 2–4pm Where: St Mary’s Church Hall, 30 Hendon Lane, London N3 1TR Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Y415DaZZGsohQbGdA?g_st=ic

Helen from St Mary’s Church has asked for GoodGym’s help clearing vegetation from in front of memorials in the churchyard, so that each one can be properly photographed and recorded.

We will be starting with the western section, where we helped with gardening back in March. This is a simple but worthwhile outdoor task: clearing back growth, tidying around memorials, and helping make this historic space more visible and accessible.

Helen is very knowledgeable about the church and its history, so it should also be an interesting session as well as a useful one.

Come for as little or as long as you can — there is no pressure to stay for the full two hours. Even a short bit of help will make a difference.

What to bring: Gardening gloves if you have them, and clothes suitable for outdoor work.
