Merton Garden Streets and Community Growing Projects
Merton Garden Streets is a volunteer-led initiative by local residents and businesses in the borough of Merton to make our streets greener. The project began in 2021 and was inspired by Wandsworth’s Green the Grid project and run by volunteers from Merton's Climate Action Group. Merton Garden Streets is now delivered by Sustainable Merton, with some support from Merton Council, and led by local volunteers. Through encouraging street and front garden planting, together we are improving community well-being and delivering important environmental benefits, such as increasing wildlife, improving air quality, and helping to prevent flooding.

Note that the session will start at 7pm but the listing shows 6.30pm to allow time to get there, as we need to co-ordinate 3 different start locations, which are approximately 20 minutes walk from the listed address (The Leather Bottle). Further details below.

We will be supporting Merton Garden Streets to deliver spring bulbs to their volunteer street coordinators across Raynes Park and South Wimbledon. The bulbs will be planted by local residents in tree pits, verges and front gardens across the borough, creating more colour and food for pollinators next spring. Merton Garden Street is a project funded by Merton Council and delivered by Sustainable Merton.

If you are ready to join us to get the bulbs to where they need to go, be sure to wear suitable footwear and dress for the weather. It's going to take a little pre-planning and organising across the 3 different start locations - and if you have a preference of heading to Raynes Park or South Wimbledon please do let us know, either email merton@goodgym.org or keep an eye out on the group Whatsapp chat for the poll.

We will be working in 3 teams and the task will involve walking (or running if you choose) approx 2-3km. Think of it like leafleting but to a variety of addresses rather than door to door. More instructions will be provided at the briefing when you arrive at the session.
