For this session we're going to meet at the task, so you'll need to make your own way there. We encourage you to walk, run, or cycle to do so!
This is our monthly conservation session with the friendly volunteers at the Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods (FOLAW).
Over recent sessions, we’ve been helping to clear a tract of woodland that’s been earmarked to become a new coppice. With the brambles, ivy and fallen branches now out of the way, it’s time to get planting.
We’ll be putting around 200 saplings in the ground, including hazel, silver birch and small-leaved lime. Once established, these trees will be coppiced and their wood used for traditional crafts, just as it would have been in ancient times.
So grab your gardening gloves and come help us put down some roots for the future! 🌱
We'll join the FOLAW volunteers from 10am until about 11.30am (they finish later, and you are welcome to stay on).
Afterwards we'll head to the Chestnuts kiosk at The Lodge for hot drink. It's fine if you need to leave earlier.
Please bring sturdy gardening gloves if you have some 🧤. Oh, and don't forget your reusable cup if you have one and want a coffee!
There may not be a GoodGym Bexley leader at this task, but the FOLAW organisers will make you feel very welcome.
Look out for other GoodGymers and perhaps one of you can write short report and add photos of you at the task via the 'Mission Accomplished' email that will land in your inbox later in the day.
📍Meeting point
Meet at 10am near the toilets next to the Chestnuts kiosk at The Lodge, across from the abbey ruins. Find the FOLAW organisers - usually Marc and/or Paul - in hi-vis jackets and tell them you are with GoodGym. They'll ask you to sign in and will explain the task.
Please note that the group will head into the woods promptly at 10.10am so do make sure you arrive in good time 😀.
