Getting there

For this session we're going to meet at the task, so you'll need to make your own way there. We encourage you to walk, run, or cycle to do so!

    About this session

We will invite local residents and families to visit Barnet’s Tiny Forests and take part in simple citizen science activities using the QR codes on site. The event will help people understand how trees support biodiversity, store carbon, cool urban areas, improve air quality and provide habitats for wildlife.

By connecting people with these local Tiny Forests, we hope to encourage greater awareness of nature-based climate action and inspire residents to care for and support green spaces in their own community.

There are now not one but FOUR Tiny Forests on the site, so there is plenty to do, and goodGym are going to facilitate.

After the first Tiny Forest was planted in 2022, three more were planted in March 2025, as part of an ongoing science experiment to find out the ideal planting conditions for these urban forests. For those who are new, there will be a introduction to the research project.

Tiny Forests are dense and rapidly growing native woodland in a small area. They provide a protected habitat for wildlife, capture carbon, filter the air of harmful particulates and reduce flooding and soil loss.

There are now more than 200 Tiny Forests in the UK and the number keeps growing. The Mutton Brook one is particularly popular with the local community.

Join us for the usual mix of citizen science, litter picking and weeding. This is a great way to show a practical interest in Climate action week. If you’re interested in doing some Yoga bring a mat.
