About this session

Coppetts Wood Conservationists have asked for our help managing habitats in the Glebelands Nature Reserve.

The dry weather has left the water level in some ponds low enough to allow safe access for volunteer to clear vegetation around the edges. There's only a limited window to get in there before rain fills them up again. The main task will be digging bulrushes from the banks.

We'll meet at the Phoenix Cinema as usual and run or walk to the meeting point. If you want to cycle, you can probably lock your bicycle to railings at the nearby leisure park but it may not be secure.

We'll meet Brian at the sign on the path along the Glebelands Open Space. Approximate w3w location - look for the sign at the entrance to the nature reserve along this path. If you're meeting us on location, aim for about 7:20pm.

Brian says the task should take 5 volunteers around an hour, but with Goodgym's help the task should be done in no time. If there's time to spare, we'll use the fitness equipment along the path next to the nature reserve or plog the path along the side of the council pond outside the Glebelands.

We look after Coppetts Wood Nature Reserve on behalf of Barnet Council. Meeting up every Sunday morning we create wild flower meadows, dead hedges, plant and coppice trees and make sure main paths are made accessible. We have also put up many bird and bat boxes, the latter helping to encourage the nesting of our different bat species.

What to look out for

Make sure you've read our general guidelines for safety for taking part in a GoodGym session.

This is a GoodGym group run. You'll meet other GoodGymers at the start location and run to the task together. If you can't run for more than 15 minutes without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact your area activator Paul Salman by email at pauls@goodgym.org.

Options are available to run between 3km and 5km in total.

Remember that we will be running to and from the task, so you'll only be running for half this distance in one go.
