About this session

After a three successful visits to The Greenway Orchard, we shall be returning again on 1st September to take on the overgrown undergrowth in the former flower meadow area of the Orchard, so that the volunteer team there can replant the meadow.

Based on our host Taiwo's feedback after our last visit on 28/7, our task for this visit will be a combination of cutting back what remains after our previous visits, and digging out roots, and so further adding to their compost heap!

They are hugely appreciative of our efforts in taming (or trying to tame...) the bramble mountain that has confronted us on our last three visits, and we definitely know what to expect this time...although the recent dry spell means it will still require a good bit of effort to dig out the roots.

Please come prepared with long sleeves and trousers (of some sort) to protect against the brambles, thorns and other jabbing/grabbing green things that will be part of this evening's entertainment - gloves and equipment will be provided.

There'll be a run option (c2m/3.2km each way) starting at Freaks and Geeks (West Ham Lane), with bag drop available at the pub, meeting at 6.30pm, and returning back there afterwards - or alternatively you can meet us at the task.

We're a volunteer led group in Plaistow, supporting the community and their green fingers. Come by and have a look at your local Orchard!

The Greenway Orchard was established in 2016 on a strip of land alongside the Greenway, by Newham University Hospital, and is run by a small dedicated group of volunteers who are keen to establish and maintain the small orchard of diverse trees and plants.
