For this session we're going to meet at the task, so you'll need to make your own way there. We encourage you to walk, run, or cycle to do so!
The Exchange is a community-led arts and crafts organisation that uses the heritage of its home, Erith’s Grade II listed Old Library, to inspire new programmes and activities that bring people together and demonstrate the power of community craft and action.
🎯The task
The Exchange team have asked us to help clear an area of brambles and nettles. So we'll get busy and give those prickly and stinging invaders their marching orders! 🌿💪
Then we'll be forking compost between two composting bays, turning it over to help it rot down more quickly. Some material will need chopping down into finer, 1-inch pieces to help it compost faster and we'll remove anything that is really woody (larger than a pencil thickness) to a separate pile.
We’ll also be giving the railings around the building a good clean, helping to give the whole place a smart and sparkling finish.
We’ll work for around 75 minutes, then there’s a rather lovely reward… we’ll be treated to hot drinks from their coffee bar, and we hear the coffee is pretty good☕!
Plus, if rumours about the tasty cakes and pastries are true, you might want to bring payment for a little something extra 🍰 🥐.
Brambles and nettles out, compost turned, railings shiny, and coffee on — sounds like a great GoodGym task. Hope you see you there!
What to bring and wear
Please bring thorn-proof gardening gloves 🧤 if you have them (spares will be available), and we recommend wearing long sleeves and long trousers to protect against the brambles and nettles. Sturdy shoes are also recommended, and definitely no open-toed footwear, please.
All other equipment will be provided.
