My first visit to Mr G for a few weeks and he wasn’t at his cheeriest when I arrived. My attire did draw a chuckle from him. With the warmer weather today I was wearing my summer jacket for the first time in a while, and Mr G had previously complimented its “retro American styling”. He did so again before laughing about his own 1970s fashion innovation of wearing a baseball shirt underneath a transparent plastic mac.
Thought I’d managed a home run in the supermarket, even fulfilling an unseasonal request for Brussels sprouts. No sooner had I left the store than I remembered I’d promised to pick up some porridge despite the lack of a reminder label, so it was temporarily back to second base.
Back at Mr G’s, he’d perked up noticeably, amusingly mimicking his telephone adversaries and his neighbours and telling some fascinating stories of his 1970s lifestyle. Great to touch base with him.
