Report written by Sheffield runner
Met by Gareth 7 Goodgymers re-gathered to create a wonderful apple processing line to sort and save the good apples and discard any bad apples from Regather's apple crate mountain, prior to pressing and cider production (by local cooperative Regather).
We had a fruitful afternoon sorting, chopping and washing apples (approximately 15+ large crates) ready to be pressed to make Sheffield cider early next week :)
Afternoon highlights included:
Holding the Torch Tim arriving with his head torch after mentioning Kat had advertised the mission as a dark task :) As one of the chief apple inspectors/ sorters he made good use of it :)
The A(pple) Team Spirit and Sound System Steve providing tunes
Team tea nicely made by Server Serg and homemade apple cake (by Absent Ash)
Post mission complete pub visit
We had apple-an, and we peeled it off.. Post mission stats: - 11 crates of full good apples sorted and washed - 3 buckets of apples salvaged through chopping out the bad bits, and washed - 3/4 of a large dustbin of apple compost created from the apples that didn't make the cut
Thanks again Good Gymers for another apple-easant afternoon success :)
Regather is a community benefit society working to improve food and build community in Sheffield. We run an organic farm, veg box scheme, and many other community projects. In our organisation, we centre our work around care for our environment and the people in our community. Our objects are to foster community development and understanding around the importance of the local food system in Sheffield and how it works, in order to enable everyone to work together to democratically change their food system for the better.
