Well, it was an eventful mission - correction, it was eventful pre-mission as both of our runners had some unique challenges getting to the place! Julia decided to cycle to the allotment and thought it was a good idea to take on a curb from a side on her small-wheel bike.... Result - very bruised left hand and a spectacular fall just outside Redbridge Library! Thankfully the pain didn't kick in well after the weeding job was done! Linda was driving to the site and, well, got very lost in the labyrinth of South Ilford, thankfully finally making her way out to do some serious weeding work!

Mission Today we decided to focus on the overgrown bed of some vegetables and flowers that has become a bit of a meadow with California poppies and marigolds spreading themselves all across the bed. Equipped with forks and hoes we attacked couch grass, dandelions and some spiky weeds without pulling out (too many) flowers! In the process we have re-located some worms and bugs onto next bed, whilst allowing a ladybird hangout on a foxglove that still had a flower or two.

Thankfully the sun was out and the soil was very soft due to all the recent rain, so it was a rather satisfactory 1.5hr of gardening outside in fresh air - exercise and a good deed all in one! We hope the clients of the GreenHouse Project by Single Homeless Charity will enjoy creating a wildflower meadow on this, now cleared, patch!
