Pet Shop Boys had a good run of hits back in the 80s and 90s - the title being one of them :). Those were times when you could still pop into your local hardware store and pick up any weird and wonderful niche DIY bits to fix things.

Roll on to 2026 and sadly for Ms S and I times have changed a bit. I identified the part that Ms S needs to fix her curtain rail. A trip to the local B&Q proved a fruitless venture. Great if I needed a tin of paint. Not so great if I needed a hinge joint for a curtain rail. Too specialized a part for Screwfix and Toolstation as well. The part needed is like the one in the picture.

The weather also put paid to any ideas of gardening.

So instead Ms S and I had a lovely chat over tea about things we enjoy and made a plan for a revisit to finally fix the curtain rail (once we track down a hinge joint in the size and, hopefully, colour she needs) and do some gardening to tidy up the front garden.

One more chance to save this curtain rail!
