Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sevan
For their last task of the day, Kash and Sevan were again building flat pack furniture. There was extra jeopardy this time as the furniture had previously been built and dismantled. Who knew if all the pieces were still there or if half the screws had gone walk about.
Miss S was full of energy when Kash and Sevan arrived. She explained that she'd downsized from a 3 bedroom flat to a 1 bed and was still working on downsizing her belongings to match. As Kash and Sevan looked around, there was hardly any space to move. The front room was packed.
The furniture that Miss S wanted to build was her dining table and 2 chairs. The lack of space to place a table wasn't a problem for her. Bags and boxes were moved and restacked with the GoodGymers help and a table shaped space appeared on the floor. Next, the carefully catalogued pieces of the table were pointed out and everything was present and correct, down to the washers and instruction manual. This was easy going compared to some flat pack builds and 10 minutes later, a complete table had formed.
Next, onto the chairs. The back pieces and legs were found along with the bolts. Sevan pointed out that there was something important missing. The seat. The bit you sit on. Cue panic! All three people in the flat searched high and low for the missing wooden pieces. Stacked belongings were moved and moved again, just in case the seat was hiding behind or below something else. Miss S said to search the alcove, so they looked at the area on each side of the chimney breast. Little known to Kash and Sevan, there was another alcove, which was a small storage area outside. After 20 minutes, the missing pieces were located in the storage area and furniture building could start again.
The chairs too were put together quickly, with only 8 bolts needed for each. Then, with 30 minutes left, it was time for a fresh challenge. A never before built challenge. It was a fold out shoe rack! There wasn't time to build the whole unit, so the three shoe holders were constructed and the rest was left for the next team of GoodGym flat pack experts to complete.
Miss S was super happy that she now has somewhere to sit with her friends and care worker without needing to go to the local Caffé Nero.
