Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
It was Greenwich GoodGym's first ever run this week! Brilliant.
We met at Woolwich Waterfront leisure centre and after a quick run briefing in the yoga studio we headed out for an impromptu photo shoot for the Greenwich gazette. We flashed our red t-shirts and pearly whites alongside Ruth Shaw, commissioner in Public Health at the council, and Cllrs John Fahy and Steve Offord.
Minus Points
It was bitterly cold, probably in the minus figures. My fingers hurt through my gloves. It must have been a bit of a shock for Joan who only arrived in London in the last 2 weeks from Northern Spain...only a few months left till Spring eh!
Fortunately the job we had this evening kept us moving. We ran to Glyndon Community Centre, where Andy from the centre had a series of jobs for us. The first was a biggie; shifting a massive pile of rocks and chicken wire in a wheel barrow! It was out on the main road and though previously used as a support for trees it now wasn't doing anything! Axel, Ed and Anna set to work on this while Joan, Steph, Rosie and I headed to the garage.
UK Garage
The garage was quite a sight; piles of bags and boxes lay on top of each other and a wide array of weird and wonderful items were precariously strewn throughout the room. Sorting this lot out will be a long term job but we made a good start. We focused on 'musical corner'- an area of the garage given over to bongo drums and PA systems. We reorganised it, giving Andy greater access to the rest of the garage. He can start throwing stuff out on his own now.
The stones proves harder to lift and shift so we pooled resources and got on with it. Rosie's idea of using a bin to lug the stones around made the difference and we quickly shifted them all into the back garden.
We said goodbye to Andy and dashed off into the night making our way to the river where we upped the speed along the thames path. We run a few minute surges, running hard until a sharp blow in the whistle brought us back to a slow jog. We were back to leisure centre in no time. Cracking running all
