We were in court tonight....the courts at Grove Tennis club, to prepare the clay courts for a new season.

It was tough work but an hour's sifting, spreading, brushing and rollering leftvthe courts looking a whole lot better.

Well done tonights crew of Ben Godfrey, Wendy Redmile and Graham Browning.

Clearing and sweeping of shale tennis courts for people to play on

The Grove Tennis Club is the oldest tennis club in Huddersfield. It is a small friendly club that allows people to access tennis whether they are just beginning or have played for years and many member of the club are pensioners. Social tennis is open to all and you often see our 70+ year olds whip the younger members around the court! It keeps the membership price really low to allow as many people to access it as possible. This means all of the upkeep and maintenance is done by volunteers. and is run by volunteers. It is one of the only shale tennis courts around. We love the shale courts but they become covered in moss over the winter and this needs to be cleared to allow people to play on them. Members all pitch in to do it but it does take a number of weeks to get the courts ready for spring. Many of the members are older and it is definitely a case that many hands make light work. We would love some additional help with the task. We can offer a brew and biscuits after. This task would be for Mid Feb- mid March as we tend to spend a few weeks prepping the courts together then. If good gym had any availability then we would be delighted.
