Sunday 1st November
Report written by Nick Moore
One of our intrepid junior runners reached the significant milestone of 100 parkruns this morning (92 junior and 8 full), and so at the end his mother was kindly handing out freshly baked chocolate brownies to us all - gratefully appreciated on what had proven to be a chilly, misty and leafy morning at the Fields.
However the very autumnal conditions (or perhaps it was the promise of cake...) hadn't deterred 41 runners from arriving under the big tree just before 9 ready for Run Director Sooz's detailed guide to London Fields junior park run, and much needed warm up.
With Rue on timekeeping duty, Sarah at her usual spot, Md at the next tree along and Nick at the playground turn, along with 6 other welcome volunteers dotted around the course to ensure everyone stayed on track we were good to go on time, and it proved to be a small group of super speedies who led the pack through the first lap and eventually to the finish funnel, with our top 3 all finishing under 8:40.
It also turned out to be a day for fours on the stats front, 4 doing their first ever parkrun, 4 first timers to the Fields, and 4 new PBs...what are the chances!
Same time next week amongst the leaves for more of the same - sadly cake can't be guaranteed (unless anyone feels like doing some baking...).
parkrun organise free, weekly, 2km timed runs for young people around the world. They are open to 4-14 year olds, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
