This afternoon a small group of us met at Lavender Green Florist in Windsor, where there were a heap of gorgeous flowers that had finished their jobs at fancy events but didn't want to go in the bin just yet. Our task was to make those flowers up into bouquets and then spread some joy by taking them to new owners.

Welcome to Natalie, who joined us for the first time, having heard about GoodGym through Centrica. It was great to meet you and to hear more about Centrica's pledge to give 100,000 days of volunteering in the next 8 years - awesome stuff!

I felt a bit daunted by this task at first, having never had any floristry training or experience, but Rachel gave me some helpful tips and soon I got into the flow of it. We had a lovely time being creative and chatting.

We then headed our separate ways, each with a big box or armful of flowers to distribute.

Claire took hers to care homes in Maidenhead and reported back that the staff were thrilled.

Natalie delivered one bunch to an elderly lady on her way to her car and then took the rest of her box to the Thames Hospice. She reported that the hospice had lots of staff who would be very happy to receive them.

Rachel and I took our bouquets to local schools. Just as I was about to go into Homer First School I heard on the radio that today was National Teachers day. How lovely to be able to celebrate this day and to show some gratitude for these school superheroes by surprising them with flowers!

We look forward to more sessions with Lavender Green soon.
