Report written by George Ttoouli (he/him)
The much-neglected green on Warnham Road got a lot of TLC from a brave group of activists, Goodgymmers and local residents.
While George rallied the residents, Subham got his steps in, running all the way from Finchley Central, a good 6km round trip. Neighbours brought their recycling and general waste bins along and helping hands.
Years of littering swallowed by brambles and bracken was laid winter bare for our hardy handiwork. We cleared the road leading up to the school gates and around the houses opposite the allotments. And we dragged all kinds of fly-tipped trash from the bushes, including - much to our amazement - what looked like the inside of a car roof!
Between us, we gathered around 15 sacks of waste and two wheelie bins' worth of recycling and plastics. We reported the bigger stuff to the council and skedaddled back indoors just before the rain began to bucket down.
An incredible effort from our community coming together and we hope to organise another session some time to help out other parts of North Finchley.
