Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)
Last night we had a new task(!) which was at Betts Park in Anerley. The friends group there asked for our help shifting a load of logs which had been made because some trees needed to be cut down. We were moving them into wooded areas so that stag beetles have a new habitat.
First off we met at the Bridge House, shared our top veg, did a quick warm up before the short jog to Betts Park.
Stag Party
We met Wally (and his pooch Rufus) who showed us part one of our task. The wood pile was massive but some stellar team work quickly got the pile into a little copse. Nick and Sami were taking some of the massive logs but it took 5 of us to take one particularly huge branch. 😅
There was one more pile to be moved although there was no way we were going to shift the main trunk. Thankfully the rest of the wood was moved without a hitch.
Wally had some great local knowledge about the Croydon canal and one huge tree that remained from Penge Common. It's always nice to learn some local history!
Before leaving the park we made use of the outdoor gym with 30 seconds on each machine.
Safe to say we'll sleep like logs after that!
A great workout and some slick running. Nice one team!
Thanks to Hannah and Stephen for the puns!
Next week we've also got a new task at Heseltine Primary School, preparing the ground for 100 trees to be planted.
