Slough worms

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

Tonightโ€™s task was to help Raggy Rd allotments with a gardening based task.

We met at Salt hill park with 6 people signed up. Two met us directly at the task location and four of us ran down the 1km route to Ragstone Rd

On arrival Mona was ready in waiting to give us the low down of the task.

There were planters that needed soiling and a path that needed leveling.

Forkinโ€™ Hell

As we gathered around the compost heap that needed clearing out and the good soil moved to the planters, Keith spotted something moving as he ploughed his fork into the heap! At first we thought it was a snake! But then as another one appeared we realized they were slow worms.

That was enough for Sandy and I to quickly take on the leveling task whilst Keith, Jen and Zoe wheely enjoyed the compost moving planter filling task.

Hard Kaurโ€™s

Abdul soon joined us and was helping the hard Kaurโ€™s Sandy and me with removing layers of carpet and mesh and a few weeds from the path. Our task was to clear the path as best we could so that the plot user who has mobility issues could safely tend to their plot. We actually managed to do it much to our own surprise!

Within 45 minutes we had done as much as we possibly could, so we finished off with a group photos and yummy apple pies. Keith hit the jackpot with fresh beetroot! Just cant beet this task location

Well done to everyone for their efforts.

Ivy a lot to do!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Mandy Driver

Thursday 6:15pm is GoodGym Windsor Night! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Tonight we were back at Vale Road Cemetery clearing Ivy, weeds and litter.

We mostly met at the task but Mandy dumped the tools and ran up to walk Jenni from the Binoy.

We had a quick chat, saw what we had to do, put on some chilled classical music in keeping with our surroundings and set to work.

Jenni started with some litter picking before coming over to join Zoe, Marilyn, Mandy and Didem on the far side.

Lots of graves had been covered in ivy and we needed to try and do some preventative measures before it crept over more of the memorial stones.

Marilyn took some higher areas with the loppers. The others took the lower levels.

We had a nice chat about a variety of things while we pruned and tugged away at the Ivy. It was a lovely calm task so after we had tidied up and taken the selfie it was time for the activity cards to energise us for home.

Three rounds of pick a card hopping, standing abs, squats and other quick fitness before saying our goodbyes with the Windsor curtsy and bow ๐Ÿ‘‘

Thank you all for coming x โ™ฅ

Itโ€™s a Slug Life

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

This evening we were back out at the allotments helping Home Start Berkshire East with their Slough Womens Allotment Project.

It was great to have Zoe back for her 3rd session and to see Sandy after a little break.

Zoe, Sandy and I met at the top of Shaggy Calf Lane and did a walk/run to the allotments and Pam met us directly there.

Our task was to turn over the soil and remove as many weeds as we could.

At first glance the soil looked very dry and we thought allota effort was going to be needed, but actually most the soil was relatively soft which made the task easier.

With lots of chats of slugs and bugs and how best to remove them in the most eco friendly way - you really do learn allot at a GoodGym session.

Within 45 minutes we had nearly turned over the whole bed and it was time to pack up and head off - Weed done it!

Next week we are helping The Ujala Foundation with their garden space.

A Bit Off The Wall !

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Mandy Driver

Thursday at 6:15pm is GoodGym Windsor Night! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Tonight we were at Windsor and Eton FC CIC to due to the weather to instead help in the clubhouse removing some paint that had not been applied properly and was easily coming away. Was lovely to see the tables we had sanded at previous sessions all smooth and painted โ™ฅ๏ธ

Zoe, Devon and Mandy had a social run from The Binoy to the task and Jen, Brenda and Caroline met us there.

Itโ€™s was Brendaโ€™s first Thursday session and it was her 10th ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Goodgym task so huge well done Brenda!

We were met by task owners and given the indoor task due to the incoming rain. Zoe picked some 80s tunes and we were supplied with scrapers to get all the paint off the wall panels. It was very satisfying watching the paint just peeling off. Then a sand down was required to ensure the surface was ready for painting. It was one of those tasks where it looks like we made it worse ๐Ÿคฃ but it needed to be done. Then we tidied up and gave it a quick vacuum.

We just about scraped through ๐Ÿคฃ one wall so we may have to finish the others another time.

Mandy insisted on a bit of footy action โšฝ๏ธ (there was no e-scraping it) with the sponge ball at the end although I donโ€™t thing any of us will be asked to sign up for the team ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

A quick curtsy and bow ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธand we made our way back.

Thank you as always for attending ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
