Five GoodGymers left the Showroom on another glorious Monday night with half an idea of where we were going! After finding Sustrans Simon and the other Sustrans volunteers, we found Curly Cat too. Armed with litter pickers, shovels, snippers and brooms we spent 45 minutes clearing up an overgrown section of the cycle network. We snipped picked, brushed and scraped at the vegetation that was narrowing the path and cleared up around the benches and stairs to make the area more appealing for both foot and bike passengers.
As ever, there were some excellent finds including a duvet! We dragged out a load of Himalayan Balsam and stinging nettles. We also saw a beautiful flock of geese land themselves in the river.
By the time we left, this area of the cycle network which it very widely used was much more inviting for the public and as we were working, lots of the users thanked us which is always lovely to hear!
Another great job for the GoodGymers.
Looks like the evenings are drawing in us again and so from next week, it is probably time to dig out those head torches!

Whilst the August Bank Holiday Monday was in full swing, we weren't going to PASS up the opportunity to get a good run in and in true goodgym style we combined this with a good deed..
This weeks group run good deed was to carry out a survey of the fish passes on the River Don for the Don Catchment Rivers Trust to ensure that the passes are kept clear from debris to maintain the path for the fish in the area to make it upstream.
On the whole things were looking happy and healthy and in a true flow state!
We got some good mileage in and Nathanael got some great photos along the way!
Until next time, happy running :)

We met with the lovely Pitsmoor Pickers to strengthen their own numbers and fight the ongoing local battle against litter.
It was great to have local neighbours come out to thank us and see how they could get involved.
There were a few hot spots where people seemed to have essentially fly tipped a load of stuff, so it was good to get rid of these.
In a short space of time we collected a lot of rubbish that Karen will report for the council to come and collect.
Until next time, happy running! :)

On a hot muggy evenings, 6 stoic GoodGymmers met with Brilliant Ben from Roundabout to spread the word about the upcoming fundraiser for this vital charity: Roundabout is South Yorkshire’s local youth homeless charity providing shelter, support and life skills to young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
And back to the fundraiser that we were promoting: the Yorkshire Chocolate Festival is back in Sheffield on Saturday 19th October! Well worth shouting out about!
So, armed with wooden spoons - or former bamboo toothbrushes - the dauntless 6 split into 2 teams to cover the "Groves" and the "Botanical" streets; we braved the hills, the heat and the vicious postboxes and after one hour we had delivered flyers on no less than 11 streets. Way to go team!
We'll finish spreading the word and chocolate love on 9th September - sign up now!
