GoodGym Runner

jason brooks has done their first good deed with GoodGym.

Jason is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Bath runner went on a group run

Tue 14th Jun 2016 at 6:15pm

"Oh give me land, lots of land under starry skies, DO fence me in.."

13 was definitely a lucky number for us tonight. After a dynamic warm-up our Goodgym runners had the best of the weather and got to appreciate a selection of Bath architectural landmarks whilst delivering fliers for the Julian House 'Barber of Seville' production to properties throughout the Circus and the Royal Crescent pausing to enjoy the views over a set of squats and lunges as we re-grouped.

Hopefully it was a fitting introduction to both Goodgym and Bath for Claire who came on her first group run tonight having arrived in the city a mere six weeks ago, it's a wonderful place to explore on foot so we look forward to showing off more sights on future runs. A big thank you to Bethan too for bringing Jason to join us, we soon showed him how warm running to get fit and do good can be that he took advantage of us passing his pad and dropped of his coat!

Pascale made her leader debut tonight under the supportive and watchful eye of Steph who didn't rest on her laurels but took up position of back marker and relished getting stuck in to the tasks in hand. After a bit of group guidance on directions en route the group arrived at our run destination of Vegmead, a guerilla gardening initiative which has transformed an underused flower bed in to a thriving and colourful community vegetable garden in Hedgemead Park. Following an introduction to Transition Bath by our fabulous hosts Virginia, Adam and Jodi they set out the list of tasks they wanted us to undertake so we quickly broke off in to groups and sprang in to action like a well oiled Goodgym doing good machine.

John and Joe gave it a good go (with a hoe, hoe, hoe!), Sam and Kenta got the tool shed sorted and then got stuck in to weeding with Rob and Rosie, Cosmo and Steph opted for a brisk walk and an upper body workout filling up and carrying the watering cans back up hill to us ready to replenish the water butt.

Bethan, Jason, Sarah and Claire really proved that many hands make light work as they installed the boundary fence around Vegmead. Adam told us of the massive difference that he had seen Goodgym runners make in other tasks we have been involved in around Bath and was chuffed at all we achieved through our joint efforts tonight.

Food Group Convenor Virginia was equally delighted and extended an open invitation for us all to join them for a social evening on Friday 24th June at 6:30pm at the Community Nuttery in Smallcombe (bring food & drink to share & to cook on the campfire if you like)

Time to pack up and grab a group photo against a beautiful backdrop before bidding our Goodgym goodbyes and taking the short cut back to base, pausing for some star-jumps and a little trip down memory lane as Steph pointed out the home that her family previously lived in. A final lap past the weir along the river completed our 4.4km run ending with a Rocky-esque romp up the steps arms outstretched and ready for the cool down, before bidding farewell and going our separate ways. (Which for Kenta and Sam was off to the pub to watch the Portugal vs Iceland game!)

Thank you all for coming tonight, have a fantastic week and for those who want to get involved with Goodgym Coach Runs and one-off Missions please make sure you bring along your ID and proof of residence documents to the next Group Run ready to be checked so that the DBS process can get underway.

Great run report Pascale and brilliant job as leader !!
