Hackney city farm needed some help preparing top soil from.... A big pile of pig poop! We were not to be deterred by this and quickly got stuck in sifting out the big stones which currently make the soil unusable and quickly developed a system. As the darkness of the evening set in we bagged up 7 sacks of premium hand sifted top soil for the farm.

Our top crew of Goodgym folk (including first timers Poppy and Lucy- welcome!) joined us at the wonderful Hackney City Farm on a bright Autumnal evening. Our objective for the session was to fill a transit van full of rotted down green waste and branches, destined to travel to another farm in Kent. A mighty job for most volunteers, but easily handled by our team, with a little bit of umph and some logistics! We even found time to fill up about 6 more bags, ready for the next excursion before the sun went down.
To celebrate, we popped over to the Seabright Arms on Hackney Road for some much appreciated refreshments.
Well done everyone!

Young plants need regular watering, especially in this late summer heat. So Alice and David joined Bernie and her fellow local residents, carrying water to the various young shrubs and trees planted on and nearby Stoke Newington Common. It's a task that allowed plenty of time to chat within the group as we carried and watered. Activity and social interaction - an unbeatable combination. Now I'm off for a pint myself.......

This evening, a gaggle of GoodGymmers gathered to help out at Hackney City farm.
Our activities largely centred on building a rather large green pile out of tree offcuts lying around the farm. Some parts required a little extra chopping/sawing to get it to a sensible size. Thankfully for the health-and-safety-concious among us, there were no power tools involved and no obvious injuries by the time we'd finished 👍🏻🥳 The green pile will be sorted by another volunteer group tomorrow.
