Life’s a Freeze!

Monday 7th December 2020

Written by Mark Webber

Back to work after the second lockdown and it was certainly a little chillier than the first one! Stephen and Mark met George at St Thomas Church Hall on Earlham road and were soon put to work digging over a bed due to have a new tree and flowers in the spring.

Thoughts of spring seemed quite far off as it was -1 but digging kept us warm and we had a lovely chat with George and the work he helps organise with the voluntary greening group http://www.heavenlygardens.co.uk

When our hour was up we handed over to Hayley and Andy (both more sensibly attired!) and escaped to the warm.

Was great to catch up with people and get back to doing something useful!

I know a joke about digging.......but its full of holes

I met Stephen and Mark at St Thomas Church hall on Earlham Road. They looked a treat wearing their Goodgym tops, but also very cold. I had ran earlier in the day so decided on FULL -1 degrees weather wear, I could hardly move! It was great to see the Goodgym shirts and their faces after such a long time of no missions. They had turned over a huge raised bed and cleared it of weeds.

Andy arrived and we had a lovely hour chatting to George. I was nosey and found out that George is a landscape gardener. He organises a voluntary group called 'Heavenly Gardens'. You can learn more about them here.

I said we would love to get involved more with his group, they sound like they do fanatstic work for the wild spaces in cemetaires in Norwich.

We chatted about lots od random things, including digging, skull finding, religion, archeology, treasure, educational groups, Brownies, churches and the morris dancing legend Will Kemp!

It really was freezing cold and most ofthe work had been done (cheers Stpehen and Mark), but once again I was reminded that seeing human faces in real life, laughing and chatting are exactly what life (and Goodgym is about!) I'll leave you with some Christmas lights photos and a cute free Library on Havelock road. Looking forward to seeing you all soon :)
