Ashley met Mandy, David and Pete a little way into the task and was able to supervise for 10 minutes while the task was done. Good job everyone. A small task this night but another opportunity for the local school children to sow wild flowers and make the boarders look fantastic. Sometimes it's not about the task, it's that we can get together and chat, social interaction is so important for mental health.

... and leave it to someone else to scatter. Ashley, Naomi, Mandy and Pete met once again at the church along with our leader David and helper Heath to create some beds suitable for wild flowers. By the time Ashley and Naomi turned up most of the hard work had already been done. After a bit more raking and picking up debris the team left the site looking clean and ready for the wild flowers to be sown.

Ashley, Pete and Rachel were summoned back to St Matthew's Church to remove some unwanted ivy from a boundary wall, to prevent any damage to the wall and to clear one of the main pathways into the churchyard, making it more accessible for visitors.
A whole section of ivy was removed from a wall and the path was made much more accessible and inviting, with overgrown bushes cut back and low hanging branches removed.
This was a real transformation session where it was clear to see an improvement from the before and after, great to see what a difference can be made by three volunteers in a short space of time.
David from the church thanked us for the progress made and we were really appreciative of the biscuits he brought to fuel the session.
Thanks to Ashley and Pete for helping out and bringing their own gardening tools on what was actually a pretty mild evening spent in the churchyard.

Back at the church on a beautiful Saturday morning Ashley, Naomi, Mandy and Pete met up with other volunteers to help manage the trees and debris generated over the last few storms. We set about processing a large pile of fallen branches into manageable pieces to bag up. Only once we were done did we discover that Pete had created a new pile from haircutting a nearby tree. We filled 3 bags full of garden waste and everyone put in at least 25% effort...

Rachel was joined by Ashley, Pete and Grant - some really fungis that will really grow on you.
The group were back at St Matthew's Church for a spore-itual session helping to clean up some mold and tidy away some important books, arts and crafts items and nativity figures.
Pleased to be inside on such a cold evening, everyone was made welcome with a hot drink on arrival and talk turned to how 2024 was treating everyone so far and what adventures the keen travellers, runners and cyclists of the group had been up to so far. The group made use of a hoover they found to quickly clean mold off some of the books they were cleaning and transporting to their new homes, meaning nobody had to clean the mold off by hand.
David is really keen for the group to return again soon and everyone commented on looking forward to spring and lighter evenings to be helping out in the garden of rest.
Thanks to everyone who made it out on a cold winter's evening when the sofa and a new tv series to binge is always an appealing option.

Ashley and Mandy spent a lovely few hours at St. Matthews Church processing a huge pile of branches into a huge pile of twigs. Also in attendance were David and Heath (who is doing his DofE volunteering at the church. Great fun as always, especially as we were provided with tea and party rings for snacks!
