Creating Amazing Space in Cricklewood Library!

Monday 17th February 2020

Written by Claire Thomson

Seven lovely runners met up on a dark, windy and rather chilly February night, Storm Dennis the Menace had not quite left the building!! We gathered outside to do some much needed warm-ups, and found our circle getting smaller and smaller as we huddled like penguins to stay warm and keep out the bracing wind!

With Tabitha backmarking, we headed down to Cricklewood Library, which is yet to open to the public, but is looking like it will be ready soon, with cafe to boot. Clare and Giuliano met us at the task, taking our group to nine. Wendy greeted us there and explained the task to the group - to organise a room full of furniture (mainly a sea of disassembled bookshelves and chairs - see photos!), to create some amazing space for some more stuff, leaving a bit of space to walk around the edges thrown in for good measure. Wendy was really delighted with our efforts as she had been dreading having to tackle the job alone or with just a couple of volunteers, and also said we were really organsied and great at teamwork, so well done everyone! There still isn't an official opening date for the library, but it will be this year, and not only will there be a cafe for a Saturday post-parkrun cuppa, but also a yoga and pilates studio, so it all sounds very exciting! Keep watching this space.

We headed to the bottom corner of the park for some tempo runs and fitness drills, before calling it a day and heading back to the warm glow of the Queensbury to thaw out.

Thanks again everyone!

The Ceilidh Post

Monday 15th April 2019

Written by Pritesh Mistry

TEN awesome runners joined me to deliver leaflets for Cricklewood Library's annual ceildih fundraiser! We ran just over 5km and delivered a few hundred leaflets too!

We started the night off with a quick warm-up, highlighted the news (GGxSofia - the euro trip - details here) and then we were ready to head off. It was a surprisingly chilly night so we wanted to keep moving! Alec helped to lead the way being a local and we headed toward Gladstone Park and the library building!

Once there we split the leaflets between everyone, split in to three groups and then went about our way delivering the leaflets! Everyone worked hard and all but one team got rid of all their leaflets (and that was only cos they ran out of houses!). It was a great effort by all and a great way to spend the evening. Sadly we didn't have time for a fitness session but we grouped together and headed back to base.

Once back at the Queensbury we did your stretches and then headed for a deserved drink!

Thank you to everyone and perhaps the ceilidh should be the next Brent social?

Cheers, Pritesh

Resilient Runners Reject Rain Fulfilling Flyering Favours for Friday (13th) Cracking Cricklewood Ceilidh - Clayton Crown

Monday 2nd April 2018

Written by Pritesh Mistry

Was it a bank holiday? Yes! Was the weather terrible? Yes!

Thanks to the six of you that joined me last night and came for a worthwhile run in Brent.

Egg-static about doing good and getting fit

Last night we were helping Cricklewood Library raise awareness of their second fundraising ceilidh which is going to be held at the Clayton Crown Hotel on Cricklewood on Cricklewood Broadway on the 13th April.

Two new runners tonight - a big GG Brent welcome to Nadav and Alec!

Alec joined us as both a new runner and a representative of Cricklewood Library - he brought along the flyers for us and then joined us on our run - thanks for a great effort. Alec explained to us about the proposed library and the issues that have been encountered with the new development as well as explaining that currently the community was being served by a number of pop-up libraries at various underground stations.

Egg-cellent runners

It was great to have Alec along to explain the scenario and give us some information on what sounds like it will be a fantastic ceilidh too - a live band and caller and three sessions over the night - it'll be more of a workout than our run I think!

As ever we started the night off with a quick intro on GoodGym and with that done we headed off towards Gladstone Park and the library. Alec knew a quieter route for us so ended up leading the way (thanks!) and it wasn't long till we were at the new library. Currently it's a shell of a building but if everything goes to plan it will be open as a library and community hub for the start of 2019.

Going the egg-stra mile

We split into groups and then worked our way up three roads taking on side roads where we had time - meeting up back at the library after 35 minutes of swift delivery work! Once we got back we worked out that we had delivered around 600 flyers - great effort everyone! We're hoping that lots get raised for Cricklewood Library and we're certainly looking forward to coming back and helping once the building starts to be properly kitted out!

That's all yolks

With that we said our goodbye to Alec and headed back to base. A quick stretch off and an update on next week's task for Canal and River Trust and GG Brent was done for another week!

Cheers everyone, Pritesh

p.s. Thanks to Alec for the guest pun - an egg-straordinary feat of alliteration!

p.p.s. sorry for the easter/egg puns!
