Cathedral Archer Project

Helping the homeless & vulnerable

We are a day centre based at the back of the Sheffield Cathedral that supports

homeless and vulnerable people in Sheffield. We believe that every person through

our doors is an individual and that support should be given free of judgement. We

usually see approximately 60 people a day.

The way we help can usually be broken down into 3 separate categories.

Crisis Support – meeting immediate needs such as providing two meals a day in

the project and food parcels for tea, use of our showers, telephone and computers

and emergency clothing such as socks and pants.

Health and Wellbeing Support. This can range from hosting visiting practice nurses

and dentists in our fully equipped medical room to arranging activities such as

football, running music and art.

Moving On Support. We aim to provide people with both the skills and confidence

to move away from life on the street. We’re here until people feel comfortable without

us, and there’s always an option to come back if things aren’t going well.

40 GoodGymers have supported Cathedral Archer Project with 2 tasks.

IT'S ANOTHER @GGSHEFF RECORD!

WOW! 34 FANTASTIC runners took part in a great task helping CATHEDRAL ARCHER PROJECT sort through donated clothes which will go to those in need in need in Sheffield during the difficult and cold Sheffield winter.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME

Please give a big round of applause, follow, cheer, woop and hola for new runners to the group;

Welcome to the group, great to meet you all, hope you really enjoyed it and hope to see you all on another run soon!

GG ON 3!

After welcoming our new runners we went for the B-Ball hands in with a good @GGSHEFF shout out on 3 and headed off across the main streets of Sheffield to meet EXCELLENT EMILY from CATHEDRAL ARCHER PROJECT for our task brief.

Our task this week was all about sorting clothes which were kindly donated and will be gifted to those in need in the city on the cold Sheffield streets this winter, a great cause that we are all glad we can help with.

We split into small teams and set to sorting the clothes into piles of women's, men's, shoes, accessories etc. It was a HUGE pile we were faced with with some commenting > I don't know whether to in-vest in these pants or sock the whole thing off... But with everyone clubbing together and mucking in we were a SHOE IN TO WIN.

As we were sorting through, everyone was keeping an eye out for their fave item which for our final group photo. There were some very interesting items and choices including a sexy little number modeled by NEGLIGEE NEEDHAM and some items that were just plain puzzling...

'Is this for a dog?' (Super Steve)

Once all the piles were in some form of order we got together with our choice pieces and had a group photo resembling somewhat of a MAD HATTERS GG PARTY before squating to the tunes of Police's 'ROXANNE' to get our legs warmed up for the outside and the exercise to come. After thanks from Emily we headed up the cobbled Cathedral path to the front of the Cathedral where we got stuck into some CIRCULAR CIRCUITS...

CIRCIULAR CATHEDRAL CIRCUITS

This weeks exercise was done in the beautiful backdrop of Sheffield Cathedral where we did a circuit with circular laps in between each exercise of 10 reps. We smashed out;

  • Lunges
  • Squats
  • Star Jumps
  • Split Lunges
  • Squat 180's
  • Mountain Climber's
  • Curtsy Lunge's
  • Sumo Squats
  • Goblet Squats

On route back we ran passed some beautiful spots of Sheffield including the Crucible & Winter Gardens and took advantage of the Hallam uni stairs to do a quick stair sprint!

On arrival back at base we stretched off and heard updates inc:

  • January Challenge Update
  • Barnsley Tues group run
  • Sheffield starter session
  • Thanks to Steve & Chris - TASK FORCE supreme members for organising Park run volunteering and litter picking over the weekend

All details of the above on the GG website. Check em out and get signed up!

Also BIG UP to SENSATIONAL SUZE for smashing her 50th good deed! Congrats Suze, be prepared for wonder and awe when you next rock up in your black 50 good deed Tee!

Thanks to everyone for coming along. Hopefully see you all on our next run soon!

Tom :)

Weeding and good deeding

Monday 21st August 2017

18 excellent @ggsheff runners ran 3km to help the CATHEDRAL ARCHER PROJECT tidy up their community garden.

After hearing about the teams efforts on Sundays run at DIG DEEP we set off into town taking on a few obstacles on route to the CATHERDRAL ARCHER PROJECT.

On arrival LOVELY LYNN welcomed us with cold bottled water and a brief about the project and the tasks for the eve which included a lot of cutting back of overgrown plants. The aim is to be able to use the garden as an activity for the project and its users who will hopefully take ownership of the garden.

After a good 45mins of hacking away the area looked a lot clearer and ready to be used once again. Lynn gave us a lovely thank you before we headed back off into the city for the fitness session.

This week we took advantage of the cities structures and landscape and focussed on some stair sets, box jumps and a killer hill rep session to finish off before heading into the SHOWROOM for a well earnt drink and natter.

Until next time.

HAPPY RUNNING
