Rubble, Watering & Flapjacks! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜‹

Tuesday 4th August

Written by Andrew Trevillion

Another glorious Tuesday evening saw us head over to New Greens Wild Garden, where there was plenty to keep everyone busy! Armed with watering cans, we gave as many thirsty plants as we could a well-earned drink. Then it was time to put those GoodGym muscles to work, shifting piles of rubble over to the nettle pit. Who needs a gym when you've got a wheelbarrow? ๐Ÿ’ช Meanwhile, Frankie expertly tackled the hedge, leaving everything looking neat and tidy. And just when we thought the evening couldn't get any better... out came the homemade flapjacks! ๐Ÿ˜‹ They were the perfect reward after a fantastic session of teamwork. A huge well done to everyone who came along. The garden is looking better every week, and it's always a pleasure to spend an evening making a difference together. Hopefully those flapjacks become a regular feature! ๐Ÿฐ

Roman Around the Bushes! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

Tuesday 28th July

Written by Andrew Trevillion

The Romans would have been proud of us this evening as we gave Verulamium Park a well-deserved clean-up!

It was a beautiful evening spent diving in and out of bushes in search of litter. Nick Nickmade the most unusual discovery of the night with a discarded pair of pants, while SteveStephen somehow managed to find more dog poops than anyone thought possible!

Despite the interesting finds, there was plenty of laughter, great teamwork and another fantastic effort from everyone. We left Verulamium Park looking the best it's ever looked.

Well done, gang โ€“ another brilliant GoodGym mission completed!

๐ŸŒณHeath Heroes: Picking, Pulling and planking ๐Ÿ’ช

Tuesday 21st July

Written by Andrew Trevillion

๐ŸŒณ What a fantastic evening at Bernards Heath, with a brilliant turnout from the St Albans crew! A huge welcome to newcomer RamonahRamonah โ€“ it was great to have you join us, and we hope it's the first of many GoodGym adventures. We were also delighted to have GoodGym legend Gill Gill with us for the evening. Great to see you! We were met by Dave, Chair of the Friends of Bernards Heath, who led us on a mission to hunt down every last bit of litter across the park. Armed with litter pickers and plenty of enthusiasm, the team covered every inch of the heath, leaving it looking cleaner and greener for everyone to enjoy. But we weren't finished there! We then swapped litter pickers for some serious heavy lifting, carrying some very hefty logs to help build a natural dam. Safe to say there were plenty of muscles being put to good use. Of course, it wouldn't be a GoodGym session without an abs challenge. We started the evening with an abs workout to get the core pumping . If you're feeling it tomorrow... you're not alone! ๐Ÿ’ช Thanks to everyone who came along and gave their time and energy to make Bernards Heath an even better place. Same time next week? ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿƒ

New faces, beer barrels and Abs! ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช

Tuesday 14th July

Written by Andrew Trevillion

Another brilliant Tuesday evening with the GoodGym St Albans crew!

A huge welcome to our newest runners Frankie, Nick, Tracy, Skylar, Stephen and Gabriel. Great to have you all join the gang โ€“ we hope it's the first of many Wednesday adventures!

After a quick warm-up, we headed off through Clarence Park, with a few surprise "rest stops" along the way... although anyone who's met Andy knows that "rest" usually means an impromptu abs workout! ๐Ÿ˜…

Our destination was St Saviour's Church, where Father Richard was waiting with a task worthy of a strong GoodGym crew. Fresh from the church's beer festival, there was a mountain of beer kegs to sort before we reset all the church chairs. It was a proper team effort, and what would have taken the church volunteers hours was wrapped up in no time. Fantastic work, everyone!

A special shout-out goes to Steve, who still came along to lend a hand despite nursing a bad leg. That's proper GoodGym spirit! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

With the task complete, we ran back through the park, squeezing in a cheeky upper-body workout before calling it a night.

Thanks for another fantastic evening of running, fitness and doing good. See you all next week!

New Greens, New Friends, and a Whole Lot of Weeding ๐ŸŒฟ

Tuesday 7th July

Written by Andrew Trevillion

A lovely evening with an even lovelier group kicked off with us meeting at the station before setting off on a gentle jog through the parks to New Greens Wild Garden.

A special shout-out goes to Tim, who somehow managed to spend 20 minutes waiting just around the corner, convinced we weren't turning up! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Thankfully, we all found each other in the end, and he joined us for another fantastic evening.

Arriving in a slightly sweaty state, we were met with the warmest of welcomes from Danielle and the wonderful volunteers at the wild garden. Within moments we had drinks in hand, healthy cookies to keep us fuelled, and were made to feel completely at home.

After a tour of the beautiful gardens and hearing about the fantastic work happening there, we were set our mission: clearing a patch of stubborn weeds from the seating area. Armed with gloves and plenty of enthusiasm, everyone got stuck in, and the transformation was incredible. The before-and-after difference was genuinely amazing, leaving the space looking fresh, welcoming, and ready to be enjoyed.

Of course, it wasn't just about the weeding. We also had the chance to meet some wonderful new people, chat with fellow volunteers, and enjoy the brilliant community spirit that makes these tasks so special. We ended up staying a little longer than planned simply because we were having such a great time!

Eventually, we tore ourselves away and walked back to base together, tired, happy, and already looking forward to the next adventure.

A huge thank you to Danielle and everyone at New Greens Wild Garden for having usโ€”we can't wait to be back next week! ๐Ÿ’š
