THE SIGN-UP DATE ON THIS LISTING SHOULD BE IGNORED. (see below)
GoodGym were asked to get involved with Nancy Whiskin and her team at Barts Volunteers at the start of the year.
Over the past few weeks, GoodGym members have enjoyed a variety of tasks, both within the hospital environment and at the Vaccination Centre at Newham's ExCel.
Activity may include taking staff meals from the canteen up to the outside of the wards; manning the (glass-fronted) visitors' desk; running patient belongings left by friends and relatives up to the wards; overseeing the rollout of the new staff wellbeing centres...
There are many roles which will include high levels of physical activity for GoodGymers.
SIGN-UP PROCESS AND DATES
This is a rolling Community Mission - you pick your preferred dates and times when you sign up via the link below. THE SIGN-UP DATE ON THIS LISTING SHOULD BE IGNORED.
Ignore any automated GoodGym confirmation email you receive confirming the date on this listing.
Your sign-up will take place externally, here, directly with Barts Volunteers.
If the sign-up is temporarily closed when you click through, please check back again soon. Any issues with this, contact email@example.com
When you're signing up directly with Barts, please note:
GoodGym applications must be marked clearly, as we will be treated as a separate group when being processed online.
In due course, we will have our own dropdown box on sign-up under the question, "Are you from another organisation?" But for now, please make it clear on your application you're from GoodGym.
Health and safety
There are stringent processes in place at all of the Trust's venues to keep volunteers safe.
You will not be in contact with any patients or visiting any wards.
You will be taken through a full risk assessment at your first visit.
Michelle completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Michelle was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.
Michelle is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.
Due to provisions for Covid19, the Crisis at Christmas warehouse opened in December for deliveries and to mobilise a unique volunteer effort to bring warmth, companionship and vital services to homeless friends during one of the most difficult times of the year. As the year drew to a close volunteers helped to organise donations and gift wrap hampers for those struggling.
All these excellent services are possible through teamwork and the coming together of hundreds and thousand of committed community volunteers who give up time, finance, skills and items to help bring a smile to the faces of the vulnerable and needy.
Jacqui, Michelle and I helped efforts to dismantle the Christmas warehouse. The weather was cold, wet and dreary but there were plenty smiles and lots of hard grafting to pass the time.
We do brilliant work because we care.
We can’t promise to save the planet but we do try our best to make a difference.
Aaaand we're back. We've been requested to return to help with a variety of activities as the team begin the process of dismantling the warehouse.
Important: you do NOT need to commit to the whole six hours for this Community Mission. If you only pop down during your lunch hour, that will still be much appreciated. The 10-4 is the window of time during which you can attend, not the expectation from you.
Tasks may include:
- Helping with redistribution.
- Other tasks helping to return the warehouse to its pre-Crisis state.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
On arrival, you need to complete the sign-in book to your right as you arrive in the loading bay.
...And grab a hi-vis vest.
And sanitise your hands.
Wait for Richard, our project coordinator, to come and collect you (Richard will be doing regular 'sweeps' of this area to come and collect GoodGymers, so sit tight and chat to fellow runners - keeping your distance from one another!).
We have to adhere to strict number caps on sign-up for health and safety, but Crisis DO need 12 GoodGymers. SO PLEASE UN-SIGN IF YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS ACTIVITY CLOSER TO THE TIME (if you un-sign, someone else waiting for a place on this activity then gets notified a place has become free).
Health and Safety
You need to bring your own gloves to wear.
You need to bring a face covering and when you're working in an indoor area, or a confined space with others outside, you will need to wear your face covering.
The warehouse gets chilly. Please wear plenty of layers.
