Island hopping!

Mon 10 May
Report written by Liz James

We met in the sunshine at King Edward VII Park. We are 'hopping' between all the local parks! We were all glad that the weather was better than last week, but hoping for warmer weather in the coming weeks. Hopefully, as warm as a tropical Island!

Liz led a short warm up. This was followed by each person sharing two exercises with the group. There was a good range of exercises for the legs and abs. Liz led some stretches.

Finally, we 'hopped' along to the Island for a cheeky drink or two!

Hope to see you all again next week!

Foodbank Clear-up

Fri 30 Apr

North Paddington Foodbank is currently based out of St Luke's church on Fernhead Road, near Queen's Park station.

The task will run every Friday evening from 6pm and go no longer than 8pm.

They really need our help as every week they have to pack the foodbank away as the church then needs the space for it's weekend activities.

Come and join this community mission and help the essential service.

The foodbank needs to know how many voolunteers will be joining a week in advance so please only sign-up if you know you can make it and let me know as soon as possible if you do have to pull out.

The greatest HITT!!

Mon 26 Apr
Report written by Liz James

Tonight we gathered in sunny Queen's park for our greatest HITT session yet!

We began with a quick warm-up. We then began our HITT round-robin, which was simply the best! There were 9 participants and 2 rounds. Therefore, 18 greatest HITT exercises of all time. The first round focused mostly on leg muscles. The second round mostly focused on abs. Whilst exercising we listened the greatest HITTs of all time (in Liz's opinion) ;-)

We finished the session with some cool down stretches before heading to Wolfpack for a quick drink!

Glad to see the greatest HITTs of GG in person, including a couple of faces we haven't seen for a while.

Hope to see you next week! Location to be confirmed soon.

Gardening in the sun

Sat 24 Apr
Report written by Daniel Mermelstein

Six GoodGym volunteers joined a group of local activists for a packed morning of gardening and litter picking at the Cricklewood Millennium Green. It was a glorious sunny day and everyone was itching to leave the lockdown blues behind. We received a warm welcome from the Geen's trustees and volunteers, who have a shed-load of implements. A whole load of plants donated by the local B&Q were produced and we set to digging. It was hard work on hard ground, but we made good progress and left looking better than when we arrived. There is plenty more work to do and we look forward to helping the Millennium Green volunteers make their space even more attractive and welcoming. Special mention to Claudia, who came despite being more than seven months pregnant! I guess we could saay that we were seven GG volunteers!

Gardening and litter picking at Cricklewood Millennium Green

Sat 24 Apr 11:00 am
23 Claremont Road, Cricklewood, London, NW2 1BP
Improvement of local green space frequently used by dog walkers & local residents

This mission will involve weeding, litter picking and trimming of shrubs. Please bring your own gloves and snacks. All other equipment will be provided.

The Cricklewood Millenium Green is a small green space built on what used to be railway land and air raid shelters. It boasts a number of railway-related sculptures made especially for the Green by a local artist, as well as marked nature trail.

The Green is in need of love, as some of the flower beds are overgrown and the foliage around the nature trail needs trimming back.

So come and help the Green's trustees and volunteers spruce it up as we come out of lockdown!

Wood you be-leaf it!

Mon 29 Mar
Report written by Liz James

We met outside Mencap on a sunny Spring evening. Ian explained how the charity had been given some money by the council to improve the garden.

Continuing the task started in December, we cleared branches and leaves into the bin. We cleared the area quickly and then moved the garden furniture back into position.

A quick sit down to enjoy a chocolate brownie - thank you Emily, before heading home.

Lovely to see you in person!
