Always find us cleaning the kitchen at parties..

Brighton Report written by Brighton runner

The Brighton Table Tennis Club (BTTC) are a fantastic organisation who open their doors to those who need a safe and welcoming place to hang out. The club hold regular practice sessions for those with disabilities, children who are refugees and have no other means to socialise, as well those children who's families don't necessarily have money available for after school activities. The club also reach across many other support networks across the city and their fully story can be found here: [https://brightontabletennisclub.com/about]

With a distinct change in the weather, both in meteorology terms and pandemic restrictions, six Brighton Goodgymers helped Gary, BTTC's caretaker to clean up in the hall of St. John the Baptist Church. The hall is being used as a Foodhub, run by BTTC, providing food to local families who need support during this time and hot meals for refugee families who have extremely limited support.

Laura, Frannie and Sherman got to work deep cleaning the kitchen, pulling cutlery and utensils out of drawers and cupboards to make sure everything was sparkling.

Rosemary and Paul swept and mopped the main hall floor making sure there were no crumbs left in the corners to attract little four pawed friends in to investigate.

Unsure of how the next few weeks are going to go we tentatively said our goodbyes in the hope we can get some Goodgym action going again asap!

Lop lop and away

Brighton Report written by Laura Summerton

A warm welcome to Karla and Mathilde joining us for the first time and a big thanks to Laura for writing tonight's run report!

Once we located a few lost runners we tackled those trees with glee. We cut back unruly growth from the base of the trees on Palmeira Avenue thereby stopping their spread and helping the trees to grow big and strong 💪🏼 . We cleared any litter we came across and generally tidied up the area around the trees. Many of us also discovered the joy of using loppers! That feeling as you seamlessly glide through a bit of branch that had left everyone else stumped (get it?!) Tara’s Mum’s loppers in particular proved a hit. Thanks Tara’s Mum.

Rubbish pics, rubbish pickings!

Brighton Report written by Tara Shanahan

Congratulations to regular runner Rosie Robbins on reaching the remarkable achievement of 50 good deeds! She started her Goodgym adventure back in the day up north in that there London, but London's loss is Brighton's gain and for the past two years or so she's been good deeding down south. And let's not forget what a great social secretary she was back in the good old days when we were allowed to have social lives!

At the other end of the Goodgym range of experience we were very happy to welcome Lucy for her first Brighton good gym (another refugee from the big city, having previously completed a couple of good deeds in Lambeth!) and Nathan discovering the joys of Goodgym for the very first time.

Our task tonight was to help the residents of the Craven Vale Estate tidy up. We connected with Garry from the council's Tidy up Team to supply us with bags and tools, so armed with proper litter pickers and bag holding hoops half the group had a good old litter pick. The rest of us using , scrapers, spades, brooms and forks weeded the bed in front of the block and tidied up the weedy kerbs and steps to make it easier for residents to get in and out. David from the litter picking group reported seeing a frog or toad cross the road and thought we might get a pun out of it but my punning brain is not working tonight! And Sherman found some kids shoes and despite normally being our best photographer only managed to get one good pic! Sadly my new phone hasn't improved my night time photography skills so the photos don't really demonstrate what a difference we made! Well done all!

Say Hello, Wavertree Goodbye!

Brighton Report written by Tara Shanahan

Tonight we said ‘hello’ to Irica, Emilie & Jason joining us for the first time and also “hello’ to Wavertree House as it was the first time we’ve paid them a visit. We love having new people to welcome and we love discovering new ways we can make our city a little bit better!

This RNIB (Royal National Institute for Blind people) residential care home caters for mainly elderly people with varying degrees of visual impairment. And they have a very large garden!

Staff members Christine, Emma & Julie have spotted the potential of this large but somewhat overgrown space and have spent loads of their free time trying to tame the jungle. Having already cut back lots of overgrown shrubs and trees our main task tonight was to bag up this waste so it can be transported to the green waste section of the dump.

Other tasks included picking up litter chucked over the wall from the street and tackling the ivy which was completely covering the back wall and strangling several trees.

We got loads done, reduced the pile of waste, revealed a lovely flint wall and released some trees from the grip of ivy, but loads more to do so hopefully we will back soon.

And thanks to Davidfor tonight’s great pun!
