Kirsty completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Kirsty was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Premium Ponds

Wed 29 Sep
Report written by Tower Hamlets runner

A large and lively group of runners met our lovely task owner Margaret and Michael at the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve for Pond Building Day 1. The early birds amongst us were given an initial tour of this hidden oasis which included huge stones used to prevent drag nets from trawling our shores, houses for bats (which are endangered in our cities) and a medicinal herb garden (not those herbs before you ask). We were then directed to a huge crevice at the back of the reserve where we began levelling off the earth and removing the fibre glass and plastic from a previous less environment-friendly incarnation of the pond. Despite failing light we continued with enthusiasm – our efforts overseen by Sage our friendly neighbourhood fox. Special shout out to our newcomers and to our very own Alex who proudly wore his T-shirt with wings for the first time to the mission.

Day 1 of Rebuilding the Pond at Bethnal Green Nature Reserve

Wed 29 Sep 18:30 pm
Bethnal Green Nature Reserve, Middleton Street, London, E2 9RR
On Day 1 of this incredible new outdoor task, you'll be starting work on the new pond!

What you'll be doing

Margarte of the Hollybush Estate leads Day 1 of this amazing new, productive pond recreation. You'll be meeting her at the Nature Reserve in Middleton St at 6:30pm.

Why so early?

  • Daylight! (this is a big new project, and we need to maximise the daylight left during the evening, so if you are able to sneak out of work a bit early...).

What you need to know

  • We have allowed 90 minutes for this evening's task, but you may finish earlier.

  • Please bring your own gloves if you have them (otherwise Margaret will give you some).

  • Please take pics, bring your pun head and best one-liners to create an online report.

  • I will be supporing this remotely (and returning tomorrow to lead the second part, including a workout,) but if you have any queries, I will be available, so do just get in touch - Laura
