Painting Whiter shade of Pale.

Sheffield Report written by Annie Anthony Mays

8 Goodgymmers paint the interior of The Regather space upstairs. Fun, laughter and various quotes were shared amongst us all. Lots of high walls were unreachable even with ladders and chairs. I did think of climbing up to paint but too risky. So we have to leave the high unpainted walls for another day to abseil if permitted. Paint looked yellow against the cream walls but when dried it looks white. We were all curious with the various shades of White but we did it successfully. Well done team!

Exploratory lifting, with mud and leaf shifting

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

A strong start to the year with a good turnout despite the weather turning colder and even having a few drops of snow in the air last night!

We had a new runner along last night who was welcomed and put a good effort in at the task and also increase (neh doubling) our French contingenet within the group!

A massive bienvenu to Joseph

Please give Josepha a cheer and a follow and we hope to see you again soon!

We met Sustrans Simon on site at the entrance to Lynwood Gardens who had already laid out tools, ready for us to get cracking, after a quick brief we got straight to it:

  • Path clearing
  • Litter picking
  • Scraping mud off the path
  • Sweeping leaves of the path
  • Flagstone inspectioning

This section of path is a key link for a lot of walkers and cyclists, which takes you through a beautiful little wooded stretch. Unfortunately with the beauty of trees, there is also a lot of fallen leaves and mud that gets clumped together, encroaching on the path, making it slippery, narrower and less appealing and safe for users.

Once we were done, despite it being dark you could see how much wider and clearer the path was after our efforts.

Well done team!

Can you beleaf it!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

It was the last official GG SHF run for 2024!

What a year it's been with plenty of tasks and good being done.

For our last group run of the year we were helping Sustrans with some very much needed leaf clearing of the path up at Manor way.

The path is a really good quality one and very wide compared to most active travel infrastructure, however the first chunk of the path is under trees which whilst beautiful does present leaf issues at this time of the year.

Never fear, GG are here!

We met with Sustrans Simon who already had tools neatly laid out ready for us to get stuck straight in with brooms, snow shovels and spades to move the soggy leaves from the path to make it safe and more appealing for all users.

We had some cyclists whilst there and if they weren't so stunned by our lights on the path and the sterling clearance we had provided I am sure they would have thanked us unreservedly.

Well folks, that's a wrap, hope you all have a fantastic Xmas and New Year and see you in 2024!

Happy running :)

Puddle dodging & Paint spreading!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

Despite the weather being a complete washout we still had some strong GG stalwarts brave the wet weather to run to Regather and meet with Rachel & Gareth to help get their events space back on track!

On arrival everything was beautifully organized and well laid out ready for us, which meant we could really crack on with the task after a quick brief from Rachel.

We had long and short rollers and brushes at hand to help give the old community event space a new lick of paint and get it ready for welcoming people back to this fantastic community venue for film and music nights to comedy, to maybe even a hummus party hosted by Jono!

After what seemed like no time at all we had gotten around the entire room, even getting on to glossing the top of the stairs!

Sergiu gave us a quick tour of the other spaces at Regather for those who hadn't seen them before and we were generously offered a bottle of fresh organic apple juice from Regathers latest harvest, hot of the press and a prickly pear for those that dare!

It was great to be back with our old friends at Regather and we look forward to coming back again and seeing the events space in full swing again post pandemic!

Until next time, happy running! :)

Yes we can can can!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

Well the nights are most definitely closing in and the time for head torches once again coming out are here once again!

For tonights task they come in particularly handy as they make the litter sparkle and shine ready for the picking!

We met with Pitsmoor Litter Picker stalwart Karen who continues to fight the ongoing difficult challenge of battling the litter in Pitsmoor and Burngreave areas. She is amazing and it's good to be able to support her.

We met at 'My Dentist' and got tooled up with bags, pickers and hoops and got to it, collecting as much litter as possible.

We were serenaded by locals, thanked for our work and had a lovely friendly disco dog joining us which is always nice!

Becca came with a 'can do' attitude and offered to be the 'can lady' for the eve collecting all the cans in the area that Karen would take away to be recycled.

Lovely stuff.
