Parkrun Volunteering

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

It was a blustery Saturday morning, but that didn’t stop five Goodgym diehards from rocking up to do a stint of Parkrun volunteering at their local Crewe Parkrun.

We all undertook various rolls . Karen was volunteer coordinator and timekeeper , Emily was token sorting,Kat, was barcode scanning, Maurice was parkwalking and token, sorting, and Nicolawas funnel manager.

As always, it was a lovely morning spent at Crewe parkrun. In fact, we had such a good time that we forgot to take a photograph.... so I’ve added an old one!!!

We missed you, Nigel!!!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone. Lots of love xxx

junior parkrun volunteering

Crewe Report written by Karen Whitehead

junior parkrun was smaller on numbers but still as big on effort this week! Mother’s Day and a cold, grey, wet morning meant there were less juniors taking part today, but whether it’s 1 child or 100, they still need the same number of volunteers. So Maurice, Emily, Karen and Nigel wrapped up warm in waterproofs and carried out lots of different roles: course check, event set-up, volunteer coordinator, warm-up, marshals, timekeeper and photographer! Multi tasking at its best! 28 children took part and impressively 2 new juniors joined in this week, despite the weather!

After packing everything away, our work here was done so the team gathered in the cafe for a lovely catch up, coffee and yummy cake courtesy of one of the other volunteers. Its always a lovely morning at junior parkrun so we were glad we could make a difference.

An 'ePICK' Night!

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

It's Wednesday! That can only mean one thing…. It's a Goodgym night with my lovely Goodgym friends. I really do love my Wednesday evenings, spending time with lovely people, getting some fresh air and exercise and doing something helpful for the community.

Tonight, Emily, Gill, Karen, Maurice, Nigel and Nicola met at Crewe Park and it was still daylight!! I think that's the first time it's been noticeably light at the start of a task since last year. It felt really good. Spring is in the way!! Before starting our task though, we headed out for a brisk walk around the park. It was only about a mile circular route, but it was enough to get the heart rate up and enough time to give us the chance to have a catch up with one another.

Tonight, we did a litter pick down one of the streets not too far from the park. Karen had noticed that there was a lot of litter as she had been driving to junior parkrun recently, and thought it would be a good place for us to do a tidy up. She wasn't wrong! We filled 7 ginormous bags of rubbish and if we'd had more time, I'm sure we could have quite easily filled the same again!

Once we had finished our litter pick, we headed off to Hops bar for our post pick refreshment. We had a good natter, a good laugh and some nice drinks and snacks - and I was busy having such a nice time, that I forgot to take a photograph!!!

Well done everyone, another amazing task and seven huge bags of rubbish off our streets. You're all wonderful.

Have a great week.

Lots of love, Nicola xxx

Cool Runners....

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

It was a crisp and cool January morning but that didn't stop 71 young runners from rocking up and running/jogging/skipping the course at Queens Park. It was a delight to see the little ones as they made their way enthusiastically around the course! The smiles and the determination visible on their faces was joyous to see and it was a pleasure to be part of.

Emily took on the role of handing out finish tokens while Nicola and Maurice had the job of cheering and encouraging as marshals. Whichever role you fill at Junior Parkrun, you can't fail to be inspired by the enthusiasm of the little ones taking part in something they love.

It was a lovely morning and a great way to start a Sunday!!

Well done everyone. Amazing as always! xxx

A ‘Tree-t’ of A Night!

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

It was a super cold night tonight, with temperatures dropping below zero, so boy were we glad to have an indoor task at the wonderful charity, My CWA.

Tonight we were lucky to have a lovely new member join us. Gill joined us for the first time this evening and it was fantastic to have an extra pair of hands on the team. We hope you enjoyed your first Goodgym task Gill, and we hope you’ll come back and join us again sometime soon!

Our pre task workout was to have a brisk walk to get the heart pumping a bit and to ensure that we didn’t get too cold. We headed out into the town centre to take in the lovely Christmas lights. They didn’t disappoint, especially the lovely Christmas tree on the square.

When we arrived back at My CWA, Gill, Karen, Kat, Emily, Maurice and Nicola were greeted by the lovely Maria who gave us a lovely warm welcome as always. My CWA support victims of domestic abuse and at this time of year, they always have a big project of preparing a Christmas grotto ready for the service users. The grotto is filled both presents and allows them to choose Christmas gifts to give to their family at a difficult time in their lives.

Tonight, it was our job to clear some space ready for the preparation of the grotto. I don’t think Maria and Vicky thought we were going to achieve what we did, but it’s surprising what can be done in 50 minutes with six pairs of hands. The transformation of the space was quite significant in a really short space of time, and we hope that it’s made enough difference to enable the grotto to now be prepared for all the Christmas goodies. We had the extra highlight tonight of meeting the lovely Wolf, the My CWA office dog, who is a beautiful poochon (I hope I’ve got that right!!). What a lovely fluffy bundle of fun he was! We all enjoyed cuddles with Wolf and Wolf enjoyed a few treats as bribery for sitting still for a photograph!

It was a lovely evening at My CWA, as always. Thank you for having us and keeping us out of the cold tonight!!

Well done everyone. Another great team effort!

Lots of love. Nicola Xxx
