'Schooling' Our Efforts

Wed 19 Jan
Report written by Nicola Marshall

Emily, Claire, Karen & Nigel & Maurice had a productive night back with Motherwell again this week (a hatrick).

We had two groups this evening - a walking group and a running group. I love that we can have both options available so that it's inclusive for all

Tonight, the lovely Claire headed up the running group (Nicola still plagued with covid!) and took the gang on a lovely little tour though Wistaston. Karen headed up the walking group and took her and Nigel on a somewhat hilly route (no cursing I hope Nigel?). Everyone made it back to base safe and sound, ready for the task ahead.

As always, the lovely Kate was at the helm, organising us and telling us what needed doing and what needed to go where. Tonight's task was no less important than any other week - in fact maybe more so..... tonight the gang were organising and sorting school uniform and baby clothes. In times when people are finding themselves struggling due to increased living costs as well as the implications of a global pandemic, help and support like a uniform exchange is more vital than ever. Receiving donations and support from organisations like Motherwell can sometimes quite literally be the thing that keeps them out of crisis.

Well done to Motherwell for supporting our community in such an amazing way and well done to our fabulous team for their continued hard work, dedication and commitment to helpin their community too.

You're all incredible and I'm proud to know each and every one of you!

Have a great week and keep up the good work.

Love & hugs

Moving Boxes and Furniture from One Building to Another

Wed 26 Jan 18:15 pm
29 Sherborne Road, Crewe, CW1 4LA
Making the Sherborne Community Hub nice and fresh again

We've worked at the Sherborne community garden in the past, so it will be great to be back there again.

Tonight we will be helping to shift furniture and boxes in preparation for the community rooms to be painted.

The volunteers of the community hub are working so hard to provide wonderful spaces for the local commnity and this will help to improve it even more.

Please bring a pair of gloves and a head torch if you have it just in case we are walking across dark pavements etc.

As we are moving across 2 buildings, I don't anticipate being indoors in confined spaces but if you would feel happier, please bring a mask.

A cRacking Job!

Wed 12 Jan
Report written by Nicola Marshall

Tonight's group run didn't turn out quite as planned when I tested positive for covid on the morning of the task!!

But was that going to stop us? Of course it wasn't!!! Our lovely members rallied around as always and we were still able to attend the task, get the job done and have some exercise as well.

Karen, Nigel & Emily did a lovely social walk this evening - they took in a lovely 2-mile route through the village and called via my house where they safely extracted (with covid protocols in place lol) the flood lights from the boot of my car. They walked back with them to the task to get them all set up in the garage ready for assembling the racking.

It was a really fun and productive evening. Emily and Karen were busy moving and sorting furniture and books and Nigel and Scott were busy assembling the racking ready for going back into the freshly sorted garage that we cleared out last week.

Despite a last minute adjustment to plans, it was another well executed task by our fabulous members.

Thanks to Kate at Motherwell for having us and Well done team, you’re all amazing!!

See you next week (providing I get two negative lateral flows!! haha). Nicola xx

It was great to see Maurice, and Emily back at the vaccine centre today. They were once again there to help with the smooth running of the covid vaccines.

Our fabulous duo volunteered during the roll out of the first vaccines and didn't take any persuading to get back down to the vaccine centre when they heard that they were rolling out the original and booster jabs.

Maurice and Emily were on car park duties and supervising inside the vaccine centre to help with the smooth running of the overall process.

Well done to our fabulous duo - amazing dedication as always xx

2022 Off To A Flying Start!

Wed 5 Jan
Report written by Nicola Marshall

It was great to be back out last night with our fabulous Goodgym Gang for our first task of 2022!

And what a great way to start it with a fabulous task at Motherwell – an amazing local charity who we’ve supported on many occasions. It’s always good to be back there and supporting the fantastic work that they do. Tonight, we were tasked with sorting out their garage which basically just needed a good sort out!

We met before the task and started out with a 2-mile run to warm us up – which we needed as it was freezing (and a bit icy) tonight. We looped our way out of the estate where Motherwell is based, and we ran through the village of Wistaston taking in the lovely St. Mary’s church along the route. We also took something else in along the route – the lovely Kat who joined us a little bit later after a busy day at work. Maurice ran to tonight’s task and Claire walked. Claire was hoping to join the walking group tonight having already done a 4-mile hill rep session earlier – but it turned out we didn’t need a walking group tonight, so poor Claire got dragged into another 2 miles with us (and still made it look easy!).

When we got back, we were greeted by Motherwell founder, Kate who gave us our instructions for clearing out the garage… what needed to be kept, what needed to be got rid of. We set up our fantastic lights (it was pitch black at the back of the building) and set to work. We soon had everything out of the garage and sorted into two piles – one for keeping, the other for getting rid. One very large piece of MDF needed sawing up – so Kat who luckily lives just around the corner popped home for a saw and a few other tools to help us get the job done. Claire and Maurice set to work with the saws and soon had the wood small enough to fit into the bin. Emily had great fun with the dressing up items – including flying a broom – which just happened to co-ordinate perfectly with her leggings! Lol!

We swept the garage out, reorganised all the boxes and made space for the racking that we are going to build next week. It definitely looked better after we’d worked our Goodgym magic on it. What a difference a few pairs of hands and a small amount of time can make.

It was a lovely evening spent in lovely company as always. Really good to be back with you all again! I’ve missed you!

Well done team!! Amazing work as always!
