Bath runner went on a group run

Leaf 🍃 it Out

Well after all that rain yesterday I guess our 18 Goodgym runners were lucky not to swimming the 7k out to tonight's task at aptly named WATERY LANE for Action on Hearing Loss.

The very talented Pascale took the lead on tonight's run with her interpreter skills for the deaf. We are possibly the only Goodgym who can accommodate deaf runners and with extra help from Anne and Lucy we really do have inclusion covered on this one.

A very warm welcome tonight to Steve, Meera and the return of our fabulous two super girls Emma and Lydia who left us to play boules, I mean what ever next.

A good warm up to get us on the right track for a flat but long run out to Twerton and not forgetting that all important headcount before the starters pistol. Wellies may have been more appropriate this evening but we are made of tough stuff at Goodgym Bath so literally took it in our stride with a few puddle jumps along the way with a good mix of strengthening exercises on route. from step ups to press ups.

Evan who is the volunteer gardener at Action on Hearing Loss was eagerly awaiting us and with the help of Pascale was able to communicate his gratitude to the the group and give us our instructions for tonight's task in these lovely gardens.

He soon had use raking and sweeping the driveway and footpaths of leaves and manoeuvring them down the woodland Path tithe composting bins. They say time flies when your having fun and that was certainly the case tonight and it was soon time to leg it back to the leisure centre for a well deserved stretch and a lap of honour for Meera who did a fantastic job of smashing the 7k run... well done !!

Thanks for letting me(Steph) back mark tonight as for once I didn't need eyes in the back of my head. Thank you Steve for tonight's pun. He can definitely come back.

Remember to bring your ID along if you wish to be paired up or do missions.

Bath runner went on a group run

Tue 1st Nov 2016 at 6:15pm

What's that dripping down the Green door... The Green Door.

'Twas a dark autumnal night for this weeks group run and with Halloween behind us and bonfire night just ahead there was an eerie feeling in the air, but fear not for our trusty 9 runners there was a job to finish at Manvers Baptist church with a 3k run to eat up first.

A vey warm welcome tonight to Hannah Joining us for her first Goodgym experience and with plenty of old hands to explain the different ways to be involved and make her feel welcome it was sure to be a night to remember.

Time to get moving after our warm up and headcount and catch up on any news, congratulations to our newly qualified level 3 personal trainer Joe, I'm sure he can put his skills to the test going forward on the group runs.

We made our way weaving around the city streets with some hill sprints from Jon and Joe on route before arriving at our destination.

Pete our host as ever was ready and waiting armed with brushes and green paint to finish glossing the Widcombe room.

Emily and Ed tackled the picture rail, some might say a couple of drips but the less said about that the better. The two Johns on the green doors whilst the rest worked their magic on the skirting, windowsill and that iconic radiator, 40 minutes in total and after a bit of tuition and white spirit magic from Pete on the floor.

THE ROOM WAS FINISHED

just a small joke about having to re-emulsion the walls... Ha!!

They say time flies when your having fun and that was certainly the case this evening, just time to get that all important group photo before heading back to the leisure centre for a stretch out.

A reminder to bring your ID along to the next group run if you wish to be paired up with your very own isolated older person or want to take part in missions. Emily will be happy to go through this with you.

Thank you Pascale for back marking tonight and for tonight's pun. Shakin Stevens inspired for those of you who are too young.

Look forward to seeing you all at next weeks run for The British Heart foundation https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/getting-to-the-heart-of-the-task

Bath runner went to a social

A year of making a splash in Bath!

A gathering of amazing GoodGymers to celebrate a year of GoodGym in Bath! Thank you to everyone who came along and of course, thank you to our friends from Brizzle - it wouldn’t be a Bath social without you anymore?!

Happy birthday to us!

This time last year, GoodGym Bath was just starting, with our first Group Run kicking off what was to be a year of running and good deed-doing like Bath had never seen! And to celebrate, our lovely Task Force member Rosie planned a fun filled evening of curry and quizzing.

First it was a curry at the Bombay Lounge. The food was absolutely delicious and with some fizz supplied by John what more could you ask for to kick off an evening of birthday celebrations!?

Then it was off to The Boater for the pub quiz. Three teams were assembled - Steph Club 7, Gaggle of Goodgymers (sadly mispronounced by our man-bun wearing quizmaster - just can’t get the publicity these days?!) and the Butternut Squats. Whilst the anagrams drove Steve, Lucy and the rest of Steph Club 7 insane, the Butternut Squats were lifted by the inter-round drawing challenge and Emily’s amazing (questionable) artistic talent, with Sam pulling back some hope for the Gaggle of GoodGymers in the paper aeroplane challenge. Sadly, no prizes were won, with the Butternut Squats coming in in 5th, closely followed by Steph Club 7 in 6th and the Gaggle of Goodgymers in 7th, but its safe to say all in all, a great evening was had by all.

THANK YOU! You're all amazing!

We can’t thank enough all the people that have helped make GoodGym Bath such a success this year. From the wonderful community projects and charities we’ve helped, to our amazing runners from London and of course Bristol! As well as all the wonderful runners from Bath and our amazing trainer Steph - here’s to another year of using our runs to make a splash in Bath!

The Jolly Green Giant

A lovely autumnal evening for our 7 super runners for a 4K run along the canal to finish off painting the Widcombe room for Manvers Baptist church.

A bit thinner on the ground than last week but still full of energy and enthusiasm to get fit and do good in our beautiful city. Bring it on!!

A huge Congratulations to everyone who took part in Cardiff half and Bournemouth marathon at the weekend with some PB's in the bag.

Warm up and headcount out of the way, we took advantage of a run along the canal whilst we have some early light left and of course some tricep dips and press-up against the wall were the order of the night to get those arms ready for the task ahead.

Peter was ready and waiting at the church and soon had the group organised and working hard at it for 40 minutes. He quickly identified THE TALL ONES (can see Only be Steve and Ed) in the group and set them to undercoat the picture rail with the rest of the group taking on the skirting and door frames. Items on door duty.

The paint was a dark so it was only a matter of time before someone (aka Ed) got paint on the wall... oh dear!!

Meg and Joe in a competitive mood on the windowsill with minutes to spare whilst Pascale was flitting around with the white spirit (just can't think why) all under the watchful eye of Pete who yet again gave us more life skills to take away. We will return soon to complete the task.Glossing it off.

A very therapeutic task with a lot of banter going on in the room, such a great bunch of people.

It was dark by the time we emerged from the church but my trusty head torch guided us the short distance back to base in safety.

Thank you Ed for the pun and Pascale for back marking tonight.

Don't forget a special run this Saturday, so the more the merrier https://www.goodgym.org/group_runs/it-s-a-big-one-saturday-run

A reminder to bring your ID along for Emily to check at the next group run if you wish to be paired up with your very own isolated older person and speaking from experience, this is extremely rewarding.
