I used to hate moss but it’s growing on me

Report written by Charlotte Emms

A dream team of runners came together for the first Lambeth group run of 2022 πŸ₯³

We were without our usual AA, Yianny, but that didn’t stop us! Sam, the AA for Southwark, got us warmed up before we split into two groups (a direct route and a very slightly longer route) to head to Jubilee Primary School.

Once there, we were briefed on what needed doing - a bit of feng shui for the area next to the bins and removing weeds and excess moss from the sides of the car park.

We got that done in no time at all so Chi stepped in to give us a quick workout πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ including various squat jumps, lunges, tricep dips, press ups and wall sits.

Once our legs were about ready to turn into jelly, we had a group photo in the playground and headed back to base for a warm down.

What a way to start the year! Nice one everyone πŸ’ͺ

Preparing Planters at Jubilee Primary

Tue 11 Jan 19:00 pm
Papa's Park, 10-17 Pulross Road, London, SW9 8AF
Group runs are back!

πŸ’₯πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰πŸ˜¬πŸ™ŒπŸ»

That's right, the legendary GoodGym Lambeth group run is back!

Here's how it's going to work:

  1. Arrive at Papa's Park between 6:45 and 7pm. There is somewhere to leave bags and coats if you need to, but please be considerate of others when moving in and out of the room.

  2. We'll gather outside.

  3. After a quick warm up, we'll grab some gloves and split into groups to run to the tasks (there are always options for different paces & distances - no one gets left behind)

  4. We'll arrive at the task by 7:30, blitz the task and then run back to Papa's for an 8:30 finish.

THE TASK

Jubilee Primary School is emerging from the Christmas Holidays and hibernation and needs the outdoor planters getting ready for planting! It's a 2km run each way but we may have a longer option.

Please bring a mask.🀿

Any questions? Drop me an email.

Sieving Wonders of the World

Mon 10 Jan

Report written by Anastasia Hancock

We were back with a bang in Wandsworth last night with a fabulous group of GoodGymers raring to go!

It was lovely to see Wandsworth regulars, faces from other boroughs coming to join us, and to welcome Kelly to GoodGym for her very first run. Cheers all round!

After a quick warm up where we talked about the task ahead - helping out at a local community garden transformed from a multistory carpark and run by volunteers - and discussed our New Year's resolutions. Several of us pledged to be on time more (every year for me - going to happen any day now, I'm sure of it), while others vowed to walk, cycle and run more. There was even the excellent intention to be more Nigella.

We set off for Doddington, with only a minor hiccup along the way as some of us took on a little additional mileage, and arrived at the garden to find Malissa waiting for us with jobs that included digging over and sieving the compost, as well as clearing leaves from the pathways.

After forty minutes of hard work, we said our goodbyes and headed off into the night, stopping along the way for several fitness stations which included the dreaded progressive squat and pavement toe taps.

There are loads of exciting things coming up, including several missions this weekend - you can check out all the options here. If you fancy a free tickets to the National running show on the 22nd - 23rd Jan at the Birmingham NEC (https://nationalrunningshow.com/birmingham) you can get a free one thorugh Wandsworth runner Oliver with free ticket code - OCANNON. Thanks Ollie!

Don't forget parkrun every saturday at 9am - a couple of GGers said they were doing Wimbledon so look out for some friendly faces.

Next week we're off to a local theatre and arts charity to lend a hand, you can sign up for more fun right here. Hope fully see you then, but in the meantime, run happy into 2022!

Help out at a rooftop garden

We're back with a bang for the first group of the year! Join us at the BAC to run down to a rooftop community garden where we will be helping the volunteers with various jobs at this converted rooftop. We will then do a fitness session which will blow those cobwebs away before heading back to base.

If you have a headtorch please bring it along as this is a dark task.
