GoodGym Barnet Where every stride makes a 'food'tastic difference!

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

What a turnout! Over 30 GoodGym enthusiasts rallied together for an evening of fitness and goodwill, all in support of the Finchley Food Bank. It was a sight to behold, with both familiar faces and a plethora of new ones joining the cause. Despite the cool breeze, the sun decided to grace us with its presence, making our mission even more delightful. We gathered outside the iconic Phoenix Cinema, eager to embark on our journey but not before a quick snapshot and some words of inspiration about the GoodGym spirit.Who says it's all about running? Not us! Penny and Franky led an equally enthusiastic group of walkers, while Paul and Moya took the reins for the running squad. The runners dashed off first, blazing down the left-hand side of the High Street, while the walkers strolled along the right. In a twist of fate, the walkers and runners reached the Food Bank simultaneously. How's that for timing? Well, it turns out the runners had been making pit stops for some impromptu exercises, from paired squats to synchronized pushes. With Anna, the Food Bank manager, welcoming us with open arms, we wasted no time unloading our bounty of food donations. The Food Bank was in dire need, and we were determined to make a difference. But why stop there? Feeling the adrenaline, the runners voted for an extended route through Coldfall Woods. Picture this: a breathtaking sunset peeking through the trees as we conquered hills and valleys, our spirits soaring higher with each step. Homeward bound, we weaved through the backstreets, pausing only to push our limits with three sets of sprints and well-deserved recoveries. As the night drew to a close, we reconvened at the Phoenix for some much-needed stretches, basking in the warmth of camaraderie and accomplishment. Until next time, Finchley Food Bank - you can count on us! Keep on running, walking, and spreading the GoodGym love!

Great to meet Tan & Tom on their first group run with Barnet.

Goodgym Barnet creates a buzz with its Pollination Expedition

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

Ah, the saga of our noble band of runners embarking on a quest to save the world, one pollen particle at a time! Picture this: a chilly February day, the kind that makes you question your life choices but also secretly relish the adventure ahead. Our rendezvous point? The illustrious Phoenix, where the warmth of camaraderie battles the frost of impending exertion.

Enter Antonio, our fearless leader, whose mission briefing rivaled the plot twists of a blockbuster movie. Our objective? To rescue neglected patches of earth for the noble cause of pollination, with Finchley as our battlefield.

But hold your horses, folks! Before we charge into battle, let's pause to celebrate Niki ,our very own superheroine, who reached the elusive milestone of 100 GoodGym missions. Cue the confetti cannons and the standing ovation!

And so, off we trotted, a motley crew of eco-warriors disguised as joggers, threading through silent streets and secret footpaths like urban ninjas on a green mission. Our guide? None other than Caroline from Green Gym, the Yoda of local flora, leading us through the wilderness of Ivy and detritus.

But wait, who's this unexpected fan lurking in the shadows of suburbia? A local hero emerges, offering thanks for our valiant efforts. Cue the dramatic music and slow-motion high-fives!

And let's not forget our loyal companion, Gus, the furball mascot whose main contribution involved stealing hearts with his adorable antics. Sometimes, a cute face is all you need to win hearts and minds.

With the battlefield cleared and victory in sight, we retraced our steps to the Phoenix Cinema, our sanctum of sweat and salvation, where exercise and altruism collided in a glorious finale.

So there you have it, dear reader: a tale of laughter, lactic acid, and the triumph of community spirit over suburban apathy. Until the next adventure calls, keep running, keep laughing, and never underestimate the power of a good deed.

Ha ha, love this report :) And Caroline really needs to use 'the yoda of local flora' on her signature.

Energy mindset on!

Barnet Report written by Cloud (She/Her)

Fantastic effort to all GGers tonight who completed the task in 35 min!

Moya, Beattie, Niki, Rachel and Cloud set of from the Phoenix cinema heading towards Muswell hill area to deliver door to door leaflets. Today we were supporting the cinema spreading the word of the fantastic monthly program!

it was a very social run discussing where we invested positive energy in today, instruments we play, big life decisions, star trek, walks in the woods, podcasts.... the conversation was flowing so much that we didn't even realise we run 7.5km! whoop, whoop!!!!

Some of the big gains tonight included a big shift of positive energy in all of us! That's what GG does to you, you give your time for a nice social cause and good karma gets you back straight away! sign up for our next mission if you don't believe us. Come and try it out yourself!

Oh! and we had a 4 leg visitor!

Keep up the great work GGers!
