Apart from the obvious what I really enjoy about working with GoodGym is exploring the borough and discovering new and exciting things.

We were invited along to SW1 A Community Radio station that is run solely by volunteers from the local community.

SW1 is based on the fourth floor of the The White Ferry Pub and Hostel and after speaking to locals it has the support of the residents.

The point of this station is to give young people and others an opportunity to learn about the industry, to hone their skills as presenters or DJs.

The great thing about this project is SW1 also provide exit routes for the young people that they mentor as they have links with national radio stations as well as smaller enterprises.

A few of the young people that gained valuable experience at SW1 have gone on to do great things at stations such as the BBC and XFM to name but a few

We met as usual at Westminster Hub and steadily made our way the 2 miles to the station. Danielle greeted us and gave us run down of what the programme was all about then set about our business…

Our task was to help restore the room that SW1 calls its home to its former glory. This was going to be a job that needed to spread over a few weeks as the rooms walls needed real attention.

This week we needed to sand and chisel away at the walls so they were relatively smooth so we could return to plaster and fill the holes. So that’s exactly what we did.

As the station was still active we were blessed with pounding house music to help us on our way. A truly soothing sound, especially when combined with the sound of scraping and sanding.

In 40mins we managed to smooth down most of the wall and for this Danielle was truly grateful. We said our goodbyes and promised to return the following week.

Now for the return leg. Sprints, sprints and more sprints. But most importantly sweat and smiles….

Block sprint intervals through Pimlico, Follow the leader through Victoria and a mad dash back through St James Park for the home leg.

Judging by the heavy breathing, cheering and fist bumping i think we all enjoyed ourselves and did some good on the way.

Thank you for your time and energy people.

Remember; continue to do small things with great love.
