Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Petra Stockelmayerova
On a bit gloomy Sat morning in Canbury Gardens, I was met by a lovely smiley lady called Petra, the creative director of the festival and Tine, the task owner. I started with helping to unload the van and then was assigned to work with Magdalena and Richard, decorating the large tree with paper lanterns. My height was a huge advantage here, placing colourful lanterns on the branches. if it had been December, you could have mistaken it for a Xmas tree:) After that, I have helped another artist set up her station, including putting up a gazebo to shield young artists from the sun.
At the end of the mission, Rob with Arthur and their little doggie popped by to say hi and show me a possible future GoodGym plot. Watch this space.
It was wonderful to play a tiny part in the Fuse Festival.
We believe the right to be creative is fundamental, and should not be exclusive. Creative Youth is a charity based in Kingston upon Thames, London. As the name implies, it was born out of an ambition to encourage and celebrate the creativity of young people – which we define as ages 5 to 26. We held the first International Youth Arts Festival (now called FUSE) at the Rose Theatre in 2009, which has grown to become the largest festival of its kind in the UK. FUSE International is all about bringing the best young artists from all over the world to Kingston every summer. It provides a platform to share and celebrate creative talent. Comprising of 150 events, over 10 days, in over 10 venues around the borough of Kingston, FUSE International would not be possible without our volunteers. Empowering and equipping young people with the skills and confidence to succeed both in life and their chosen careers, in the creative industry or not
